Die 15 Hektar große Lage »Montebuoni« gehört seit 1997 zum Castello di Ama, aber diese Riserva wurde erstmals 2018 gemacht. Zuvor wurde die Lage, die ähnlich des Vigneto Bellavista auf karge Tonböden steht, neu bepflanzt. Mittleres, leuchtendes klares Rubinrot. Süße rote Kirschfrucht und Pflaumen spielen mit der seduktiven Würze. Lorbeerblatt, mediterrane Kräuter, sogar ein Hauch Minze, grüner Tabak. Nach und nach kommen zarte, erdige Aromen dazu, sogar ein Hauch weißer Trüffel. Dabei vibriert alles vor Frische. Was für eine Eleganz im Mund. Sauerkirsche, Cranberry und Hagebutte mit duftenden, getrockneten roten Blüten. Die für Castello di Ama so typische, erfrischende, salzige Mineralität breitet sich auf der Zunge aus und geht in feine, bittere Kräuter über. Tänzelnd vor Frische und Präzision mit fein strukturierten, leicht griffigen Tanninen – der nächste Schluck muss nicht lange warten.

A blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the Castello di Ama 2021 Haiku presents an immediate and vertical set of aromas that are delivered with the concentrated intensity you can expect of this classic vintage. There is an inky quality to this wine with black fruit and blackcurrant. Additionally, there is a sweet versus sour theme that imparts both savory spice and summer-ripened fruit. Earthy tones and rosemary essence appear on the medium-acidity close.

Rich and fleshy, with a supple texture, plus saturated flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose and mineral. Firms up yet keeps building on the palate to the persistent and complex aftertaste. Already beautifully balanced but should integrate even further with a few more years in the bottle. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2042.
