Lobenberg: Der Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V wurde mit dem Judgement of Paris im Jahre 1976 zur Weinikone Kaliforniens. In der legendären Blindprobe, die damals vom britischen Weinhändler Steven Spurrier in Paris organisiert wurde, verwies der 1973er Jahrgang die besten Bordelaiser ihres Platzes und stieg in der Probe aufs Siegertreppchen – vor Château Mouton-Rothschild auf Platz Zwei und Château Haut-Brion auf Platz Drei. Dank des Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. war das großartige Potenzial für Qualitätsweine aus dem Napa Valley nicht mehr zu leugnen. Hier haben wir einen ehrwürdigen Nachfolger aus dem phänomenalen Überflieger-Jahrgang 2021 im Glas. 2021 war in Kalifornien generell ein Jahr der Perfektion und Intensität sowie Balance sind seine Kennzeichen. Der jugendliche Wein steht in undurchsichtigem Violett im Glas. Die Nase ist dicht und opulent mit reifer Pflaume, Schwarzkirsche, vibrierender Cassis und floralen Aromen. Etwas Lakritz, Zigarrenkiste und steinige Mineralität und Würze lassen erahnen, was dieser jugendliche Wein mit ein paar Jahren Flaschenreife offenbaren wird. Vor allem die dunkle, rauchige Mineralität gibt dem Wein eine ernsthafte, weitere Dimension. Im Mund ist der Wein druckvoll, dabei glockenklar, präsent und harmonisch. Ein absolutes Powerteil, ja, aber der Wein hat durchaus auch Finesse. Die griffigen Tannine brauchen noch Zeit im Keller, aber die Komplexität und Frucht des Weins sind schon heute absolut grandios! 98/100

The Drink Business über: S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvigon

-- The Drink Business: Dark purple at the rim. Opaque at the core. Inky. Graphite with a touch of cedar. Chocolate-coated violets. Very impressive. This exudes class and concentration, too, but its considerable power is beautifully disguised. Lovely dark blueberries and wild bilberries. Black cherry. Liquorice. This is highly crystalline, pixilated, layered, rippling, with great precision. Chewy but in all the best ways. There’s a subtle yet glorious leafiness to the fruit too which brings an additional dimension. Not overwhelmingly powerful but gracious, moderated and supremely elegant. 98/100

Suckling über: S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvigon

-- Suckling: A firm but refined, elegant wine that shows great balance, tension and a wonderful bouquet of floral, savory and black-fruited flavors. Creme de cassis, dried cherry, cigar box, bay leaf and black olive notes fill the aromas and flavors, while snug, fine-grained tannins light up the texture. Full-bodied. It's a vintage worth aging. Drinkable now, but best from 2029.

-- Jane Anson: You land squarely in the heights of Napa from the opening aromatics, with juicy, powerful and concentrated cassis, blackberry and bilberry fruits, along with cocoa bean, espresso, cloves, and fresher greengage plum that reflects the pattern of sourcing from the cooler southern stretches of the valley. All the same, don't expect low alcohols but this is grippy, beautifully balanced and hard to argue with. First time distributed through the Bordeaux négociant system, and an exciting addition to the lineup, with its Judgement of Paris history (now Antinori owned). 96/100

Decanter über: S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvigon

-- Decanter: The 2021 SLV is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 21 months, in 100% new French oak. It's a concentrated, opulent vintage of this wine. Bright nose of violets, blackberry and blueberry compote. Full-bodied with plush velvet tannins that are ripe, powerful and super granular. An undercurrent of huckleberry fruit mingles with graphite minerality. Natural acidity is present and juicy. The long finish is bright and floral and resolves with more ripe black fruit, salted dark chocolate, and toasty oak.
