Lobenberg: Boekenhoutskloofs Semillon kommt von Südafrikas ältestem Semillon Weinberg – die Reben wurden hier zum Teil bereits 1902 gepflanzt. Wie es auch häufiger mit Pinot-Reben geschieht, kann auch Semillons Farbe mutieren, und die Trauben in diesem Weinberg sehen wie Rotweintrauben aus, wenn sie reif sind. Daher hat der Wein auch einen leichten Kupferfarbton im Glas. Mit ganzen Stielen gepresst, was dem Wein Struktur und Würze verleiht. Dann für 14 Monate größtenteils in neuenBarriques ausgebaut, der Rest im Beton und in der Amphore. Schon die Nase verspricht viel Power. Reife rote Äpfel, Honig, Vanille und Zimtwürze gehen in delikatere Aromen von Zitronengras und weißen Blüten über. Im Mund breitet der Wein sich fast wie Öl auf der Zunge aus. Was für eine cremige Textur! Aber trotz seinem Körper ist der Wein nicht fett, sondern er hat auch Orangensorbet, etwas frische Birne, weißen Pfirsich und eine salzig animierende Mineralität. 94-96/100

-- Tim Atkin: Boekenhoutskloof's Semillon is the only wine that Gottfried Mocke makes from a flat vineyard – and what a site it is, planted in 1902 on François Malherbe's farm. Blended with a 40% contribution from much steeper La Colline, it’s subtly wooded, with lanolin, citrus and some stony sap, lovely balance and just a hint of extra perfume from a splash of Muscat d'Alexandrie. 95/100

Decanter über: Semillon

-- Decanter: Vines planted in 1942 and 1902 (South Africa’s oldest Semillon vineyard) on François Malherbe’s Eikehof property are the cornerstone of this brilliant wine, joined by 40% from Chris Alheit’s La Colline vineyard, planted in 1936. Vines from both have mutated to the red-skinned Semillon Gris. Also blended in is 4% of early-picked Muscat of Alexandria from the same 1902 vineyard, to give acidity rather than aromatics. It is fermented and matured in amphorae, while the Semillon ages for 14 months in 70% new french oak barriques and 30% in concrete eggs. Just a baby – it'll shine in a decade – but already delicious, showing complex flavours of waxy lemons, sherbet sweets, meadow flowers and lemongrass on a creamy-textured palate. Vibrant, structured and concentrated. 95/100

Galloni über: Semillon

-- Galloni: The 2018 Sémillon comes from vines planted as far back as 1902, the fruit whole-bunch-pressed and fermented in a combination of French barriques, concrete eggs and clay amphorae. It has a defined bouquet of yellow flower (dandelion?), white peach and subtle lime aromas. The palate is well balanced with a dab of ginger on the entry and a waxy texture. Peach skin commingles with chamomile toward the finish. This is a classy Sémillon. 93/100

Suckling über: Semillon

-- Suckling: Lemon peel, mango, dried pineapple, nutmeg, flint and some beeswax on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fresh acidity and a textured, waxy and rich palate. Delicious dried-citrus, almond and spice notes on the lengthy finish. Drink now or hold. 93/100
