Lobenberg: 60% über 100 Jahre alte Grenache von La Crau, Nordteil, mehr roter Lehm gibt Tannin, Kraft, einfach Power. Dazu noch 40% über 60 Jahre alte Mouvedre. Komplett entrappt, Ausbau im neuen Holz von 600 Litern. Die Nase druckvoll und konzentriert. Eingekochte Schwarzkirsche, dichte schwarze Erde, Valrhona-Bitterschokolade und süßes Schokoldensoufle, alles weich mit viel Charme, ungeheuer gut fokussiert. Der klar kraftvollste Wein des Winzers, viel Druck, enormes Tannin, grandiose Spannung. Der Geschmack ist in seiner Intensität fast grenzwertig schmerzhaft. Dennoch ist die charmante Weichheit präsent. Die Kräuter und Gewürze und Bitterstoffe, alles ist in schwarzer Frucht und Schoko eingelegt. Ein überaus leckerer und trinkiger Powerwein. Hochfein, nie zu fett, kein Blockbuster, einfach nur groß! Erinnert mich an Evangile aus Pomerol. Ich bin ein großer Liebhaber des traditionellen Ausbaus wie bei Pegau und Vieill Julienne, Clos des Papes, Beaucastel etc...und doch leiste ich bei Clos Saint Jean Abbitte, der Önologe Philippe Cambie ist schon ein echter Genius! 100/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Also pure perfection in a glass, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Deus-Ex Machina is a 60/40 split of Grenache and Mourvèdre, from tiny yields and the famed La Crau lieu-dit, that’s raised in a mix of concrete tanks and demi-muids. My notes on this wine were loaded with expletives and finishes with “awesome, just awesome.” Blackcurrants, kirsch liqueur, licorice, spiced meat, and Provençal garrigue all define this incredible achievement, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, remarkable purity, building, silky tannins, and a mammoth-sized finish. More Mourvèdre spice box and garrigue notes emerge with time in the glass, and while it has the fruit to offer pleasure now, it will benefit from a solid 4-5 years of bottle age and cruise for 20-25 years if stored correctly. Along with the 2007, 2010, and 2016, this is a legendary Châteauneuf du Pape. Hats off to the Maurel family and oenologue Philippe Cambie. 100/100

-- Parker: Much like the La Combe des Fous, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Deus Ex Machina seems denser and more concentrated and powerful than the more elegant 2018. Purple fruit and dark chocolate retain a remarkable degree of freshness in this full-bodied, velvety-textured and arguably over-exuberant puppy. There's tremendous material here, compressed into a potent ball of vinous energy that I expect will develop some more nuance and elegance over time. 95-97/100

-- Wine Spectator: Gorgeous, featuring wave after wave of warmed cassis, cherry purée and plum reduction flavors that just won't quit, though they stay restrained and focused. Sweet tobacco, singed alder, warm stone and bittersweet ganache notes form the detailed backdrop, with a late tug of iron and a flash of Turkish coffee at the end adding a sense of power and gravitas. Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best from 2024 through 2040. 97/100
