Lobenberg: Der in einer aufwändigen Blindverkostung ermittelte, sehr rare Erstwein des 'Monte Bellos', ein mineralischer Chardonnay von einer reinen Kalksteinlage aus den kühlen Bergen von Santa Cruz. Blasses Grün-Gelb. Feinste Birne mit Quitte und einem Hauch von weißem Weinbergpfirsich, auch feinster, reifer Apfel und Minze mit Melone. Darunter Steinmehl und Kalkstein, langanhaltende Mineralität in Nase und Mund, dabei immer zart bleibend. Irgendwie eine Assoziation eines großen, extrem geschliffenen Meursaults, vielleicht eher noch ein Corton Charlemagne, das Ganze mit einem Hauch vom weißen La Mission Haut Brion. Es gibt nur wenige große Weißweine der Welt, die dieses feine Spiel beherrschen. Aus den Höhen der Kalkberge von Santa Cruz kommt einer der klar besten und doch auch untypischsten Kalifornier. Großes Kino für subtile Kenner! 97+/100

-- Galloni: A wine of total elegance and finesse, the 2014 Chardonnay Monte Bello stands out for its poise and harmony. In 2014, the vines were at the height of their stress from the drought, and yet the wine doesn’t really show it. Ample, broad and creamy, the 2014 has it all. I would prefer to give the 2014 at least a few years in bottle to develop more aromatic nuance. Tangerine, lemon confit and almond notes grace the exquisite, oily finish. 94/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: The 2014 Chardonnay Monte Bello sports a medium to lighter gold color as well as lots of matchstick and reductive aromatics, bright acidity and excellent concentration. Reserved and slightly hard to judge given its reductive character, I still love its balance and length. However, it needs a solid 4-5+ years of cellaring. 93+/100
