Heiner Lobenberg über:
Y Chateau d'Yquem 2020

Lobenberg: Auf der gleichen Stufe der Frische wie 2019, erstaunlich. Teuer aber sicher der beste trockene Sauternes. 98+/100

Weingut über: Y Chateau d'Yquem

-- Weingut: In light of the extraordinary weather conditions in 2020, picking the grapes for Y started on the 13th of August. This was the earliest harvest date ever recorded at Yquem. We began with the Sauvignon Blanc grapes. They were picked at their optimum aromatic ripeness in two passes, the first one starting on the 13th and the second ending on the 19th of August. Thus, we preserved their acidity, which is essential to producing well-balanced wines. We waited for the Sémillon grapes to reach peak ripeness, eventually harvesting them when their skins started to become thinner, on the 27th of August. This is when the 2020 harvest of Y was completed. 14% Alkohol, ph 3,2 Acidite 6 Sugar 7

Jane Anson über: Y Chateau d'Yquem

-- Jane Anson: Give this 5 or 10 minutes to open in the glass because it has a pretty serious structure, deftly weighted, full of white pear, quince and apricot pit, balanced by savoury rosemary, straw and fennel notes, successful and totally moreish. A vintage that had the freshness necessary for great white wines in Bordeaux, and Y pulls away from the pack with this wine. 97/100

Parker über: Y Chateau d'Yquem

-- Parker: The 2018 d'Yquem is all lime cordial, grapefruit oil and mandarin peel to begin. With a little coaxing, the fireworks really begin, letting off a whole array of honeysuckle, candied ginger, dried pineapple, lemon pastilles, chalk dust and sea spray scents, followed by a savory undercurrent of shaved almonds, allspice and baking bread. The palate is an exercise in polish and poise, featuring the most gorgeously creamy texture and bright, sparkling freshness, framing all the densely laden tropical and citrus fruit layers, finishing with a powerful BANG of profound floral and spice perfume. It is wonderfully sweet, yes, but that—paradoxically for a 'sweet wine'—is almost beside the point. 98/100
