Westhofen Kirchspiel Riesling Großes Gewächs
-- Parker: The 2013 Westhofen Kirchspiel Riesling trocken GG shows the depth, complexity and thrilling length of a great wine. Citrus and discreet herbal aromas along with dusty/smoky mineral flavors and notes of ripe apples dominate the promising nose and lead to a full-bodied, rich and limey-juicy Riesling trocken of great purity, precision and tension. The lingering, salty minerality here is really stimulating as is the rather green/limey fruit aromas in the aftertaste. Keep the wine for 3 or 4 years and then enjoy it over seven or more years. 93/100 -- Falstaff: Üppiger Fruchtauftakt, reife Ananas, Grapefruit, schwarze Johannisbeere, Blutorange. 18/20 --Robinson: With the 2013 Kirchspiel, Philipp Wittmann squares the circle as he manages to express the vineyard’s consistent hallmark of fruit as well as the individuality of the vintage. With its mouthwatering freshness and juicy fruit it may not be the most intellectual of Grosse Gewächse, but in terms of sheer hedonistic qualities it’s hard to beat. A fragrance of hay even manages to create the illusion of a warm and dry autumn. Let it linger and the usual suspects of minerality, herbs and spices do not fail to turn up. 19/20
