Lobenberg: Der Irpinia Aglianico Serpico kommt aus wurzelechten Rebstöcken. Er reift sowohl in neuer als auch in gebrauchter Eiche. 18 Monate Fassausbau werden hier schon in der Nase deutlich. In der Nase haben wir betörende dunkle Pflaume und Brombeere, Blaubeere, Schwarze Johannisbeere, drumherum Lorbeer. Dazu kommen feine Süßholz-, Teer- und Tabak-Noten. Das Mundgefühl ist samtig mit eine außerordentlichen Struktur. Nach knapp 10 Jahren kommt er in das Alter, wo man ihn öffnen darf. Dann sind die Aromen herrlich entwickelt und der Wein ist in seinem besten Trinkfenster angekommen. Dies allerdings bleibt noch viele Jahre bis Jahrzehnte geöffnet. 95-96/100

This balanced vintage (without the sudden heat spikes of 2012 and 2011) excels at providing us with a clear view of the quality of the fruit. This expression of Aglianico is redolent of dark blackberry, campfire ash and tar. The spicy wood element is evident, and the wine is quickly reaching a convincing level of fruit versus oak integration. 94/100
