Lobenberg: Gesamtmenge nur 30 Tsd. Flaschen. Natürlicher Ertrag ohne jegliche grüne Lese unter 20 hl/ha. Biologische Weinbergsarbeit, keinerlei Kunstdünger, kein Umflügen. Im Durchschnitt 70-80 Jahre alte Reben. Schwarz und dicht, glänzend und leicht ölig am Glasrand. Hoher Extraktwert. Satte Schwarzkirsche mit Sauerkirsche und roten und schwarzen Johannisbeeren in der Nase. Maulbeere und würzige Holunderbeere schwingen mit. Feine Röstaromatik und Bourbon-Vanille, kubanische Zigarrenkiste und schwarze Erde, Schokoladensouffle. Immens tief und warm, voll und satt, dann aber kommt rassige, frische, hochintensive Frucht in Mengen. Schlehe, Sauerkirsche, Mango und üppig schwarze Brombeere, etwas Blaubeere in der Jugend. Schoko-Brombeer-Blaubeer-Nase nebst Mango und Grapefruit. Neben der schwarzfruchtigen Üppigkeit deutlich geprägt von Zitrusfrische und gelber Frucht, Maracuja, Mango, extrem feine Frische, sensationelle Balance dadurch. Das Säurespiel in Nase und Mund verleiht dem Wein seine tolle Leichtigkeit. Die ultrasatten und völlig polierten und weichen Tannine sind perfekt integriert. Stilistisch hat sich der Meao dramatisch zur Frische und Feinheit entwickelt, grandios voller Wein mit zugleich ultrazarter Finesse und Frische. Die Eleganz der Granitböden und der Touriga Nacional dominiert heute die Stilistik, gewandelt in 10 Jahren vom fetten Merlot-Pomerol zum intensiven Pinot Noir mit Cabernet Franc. Sattes Gesteinsmehl und Salz im zweinminütigen Nachhall. Unendliche Harmonie hinterlassend, superfein und frisch. Der in der Jugend manchmal etwas zu fett und zu üppig fruchtige Weine kann überragend reifen, nach 10 Jahren erreicht er so langsam seine Weltklasse. Man erinnere sich an den Jahrzehnte immer besser werdenden Weltklassewein Barca Velha, der unter weit schlechteren Bedingungen genau hier entstand. Einen besseren Wein als Meao kann man in Portugal kaum finden 99-100/100

-- Internet: -- Parker: The 2011 Tinto (the flagship Estate wine) is a blend of 55% Touriga Nacional and 34% Touriga Franca, plus Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz (6% and 5%, respectively), all vinified separately and aged in French barriques, 80% new and 20% second-pass. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. Just bottled in August, 2013, this was obviously raw and showing its oak too much when originally seen, so I thought I’d give it another try a few months later. It had “Wine of the Vintage” potential. While it is still quite unevolved (something that will not be cured for awhile), it is more settled now, doing a better job of pulling itself together. It is every bit as likely as I thought to fulfill its obviously great potential, but it’s proving that better now. This will never be the big, blockbuster style, in case you’re wondering. Winemaker Xito Olazabal once spoke to me about his wines being called “feminine.” Gender stereotypes aside, if you are looking for sweet and bombastic, look elsewhere. It is pointed, focused and relatively elegant in the mid-palate, while always retaining its crisp persistence and tension on the lingering finish. All it lacks now is some complexity -- and that will come in time, but only with cellaring. This is going to cover all the bases. It is probably the best Estate Tinto yet made here, but do yourself a favor and stick it in the cellar for another 4 or 5 years, even if, in theory, it is approachable younger. This has many stories to tell that are as yet untold, and it may yet be entitled to another uptick. There were 15,000 cases produced. Drink 2016-2033. 96/100 -- WS: A lush, seductive red, filled to the brim with an array of dark fruit and kirsch flavors, accented by plenty of cream and spice notes. Silky tannins and molten chocolate hints add richness. The long finish echoes with mineral and white pepper details. 97/100 -- Martins: 18/20 -- WW: 18+/20 -- WE: 96/100
