Lobenberg: Der Vino Nobile de Montepulciano ist Polizianos ikonischer Wein, mit dem die Erfolgsgeschichte des Weinguts in den 1960er Jahren begann. 90% Sangiovese, der Rest des Blends ist eine Mischung aus den autochthonen Rebsorten Colorino, Canaiolo und Merlot. 18 Monate in einer Mischung aus französischen 225-Liter Barriques, 500-Liter Tonneaux und großen Holzfässern ausgebaut. Durch diese Mischung der verschiedenen Fassgrößen wird der Einfluss des Holzausbaus gut gesteuert, und ähnlich dem Prinzip, das auch Vega Sicilia in Spanien verfolgt, kommt durch die Mischung der Fässer sogar noch mehr Komplexität in den Wein. Der ist super attraktiv ausgewogen. Intensive Kirsch- und Beerenfrucht gepaart mit getrockneten roten Blüten und präziser Frische. Nichts ist zu reif, sondern genau so, wie man die Frucht auch gerne essen wollen würde. Im Mund eine samtige, aber zugleich attraktive, leicht kalkige Tanninstruktur. Ein Hauch Zedernholz und Vanille, alles samtig integriert. Trinkanimierend ohne Ende, ein Wein von dem man so schnell nicht satt wird. 92+/100

Drawing fruit from the various plots, its Vino Nobile (90% Sangiovese) is bolstered by Canaiolo Nero, Merlot and Colorino. It is youthfully restrained, with discreet mineral notes eventually giving way to black currant, red plum and floral nuances. The palate is tight but full with tangy acidity, appetising salinity and a subtle hint of oak. The tannins sport a grainy grip and all the elements are kept in check. 92/100

The Poliziano house style is very distinctive, and thise is one of the wines you can immediately recognize in a blind tasting, thanks to the soft extraction and sweet oak tannins obtained with up to 16 months of aging (in a combination of barrique, tonneaux and botte grande). Indeed, the wine flaunts a modern flavor profile with creamy dark fruit, baking chocolate and cinnamon spice over a full-bodied style. An ample 135,000 bottles were released. 92/100
