Wine Enthusiast über: Neuburger

-- Wine Enthusiast: Hay, hazelnut and dried pear notes appear on the nose of this wine, suggesting texture and richness. The palate doles out more pear notes and adds a complex, textural edge reminiscent of honeycomb and beeswax. A lively streak of lemon marshalls all of this into sleekness. The freshness and flavors last long into the finish. 92/100

Galloni über: Neuburger

-- Galloni: White asparagus, apple and fresh yellow tomato garlanded in basil make for a more diverse array of scents and flavors than usual for Nikolaihof Neuburger, yet without sacrificing the combination of succulence and seductive creaminess with generous juiciness that is its consistent hallmark. A Pinot Blanc-like hint of almond adds sensual appeal and a touch of iodine lends intrigue to a caressingly yet refreshingly lingering finish. A bitter note native to Neuburger – one aspect of its prominent evocation of white asparagus – is here adeptly harnessed in the interest of palate and salivary stimulation. I once again urge readers unfamiliar with the charms of this Wachau autochthone to audition some Neuburger at table soon. You’ll soon find its versatility indispensable. 92/100

Suckling über: Neuburger

-- Suckling: The only wine from an indigenous Austrian variety tastes very Burgundian, meaning rich and subtly textural. A few grams of unfermented sweetness accentuate this. I love the creamy finish. Drink or hold. 91/100

Nikolaihof
