Lobenberg: Handlese aus Bioanbau, Ganztraubenpresse mit kurzer Maischestandzeit, Korbpresse, Spontanvergärung, Malo im Holz, Ein Jahr Ausbau in gebrauchtem kleinen und großen Holz, unfiltriert gefüllt. Was für eine verblüffend eigenständige Nase: Bisquit, Renecloden, Apfel, reife Quitte, hochreife Ananas, Rhabarber... Charme, Druck, Gewürze (Lebkuchen!), Wucht aber kein Fett. Wow! Im Mund Nüsse, Walnuss, geröstete Mandeln und Paranuss, Rosinen, Honig, wieder die gelben Pflaumen mit Quitte, gelbe Aprikosen, Litschi, Thymian und Rosmarin. Dazu ein ganz kleiner Sherryton und feine Frische. Die leicht ölige Cremigkeit der Viognier dominiert leicht. Witziger Stoff, mag ich! 94+/100

-- Tim Atkin: Chenin Blanc is the marquee variety here, with support from 26% Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Semillon Gris, Viura and Verdelho, most of which is sourced from 37 to 70-year-old vines. Lemon, lime and wet stone flavours with some phenolic grip and remarkable palate length. 95/100

-- Galloni: The 2019 White Old Vines was left without additional sulfur on its lees until spring and matured in foudres and 500-liter used barrels for nine months. It has a fragrant bouquet of nutmeg, hazelnut and touches of white chocolate, suggestions of orange blossom developing with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a wonderful, tensile opening, hinting at marmalade, quince and subtle walnut and smoky notes on the finish, which has real gusto. This is a wonderful white blend from the Chris and Andrea Mullineux. 94/100

-- Decanter: Once ubiquitous blending components for brandy production in years gone past have come into their own, now with old-vine complexity. Chenin Blanc is the major component (74%) along with Clairette (8%), Viognier (7%) and Grenache Blanc (6%) plus tiny additions of Semillon Gris, Viura and Verdelho, sourced from seven parcels in different parts of Swartland. Candied lemon peel, cloves, poached pear and quince together with white blossom and fresh pastry weave together for an enticing nose. These follow on the palate with bright citrus, ripe pear and peach with stony minerality and almond-like finish. Will get more waxy and textural as it ages. 93/100
