Heiner Lobenberg über:
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma 2013

95+
/100

Parker über: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma

-- Parker: I was lucky to taste two Riservas, side by side, from the 2013 and 2014 vintages. The Masciarelli 2013 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva Villa Gemma is a gorgeous wine with a real sense of precision and balance. Next to the slightly thinner 2014 vintage, this expression from 2013 is more austere and closed, giving you good reason to hope that it will continue a slow and careful bottle evolution. You get dark fruit and plum, with tar, smoke and spice. There is a lot to admire here between the bounty of the mouthfeel and the aromas, resulting in a Montepulciano worthy of a grilled steak. Some 12,000 bottles were made. 95/100

Suckling über: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma

-- Suckling: The fruit here is really beautiful with dried violets, crushed lavender, oyster shell and iodine. To be sure, there’s lots of vanilla and resin, as well as tar and ash, but the fresh aromas do balance everything out. What’s more, while the palate’s big and bold with very chewy tannins, there’s a streak of fresh acidity that keeps this fine and elegant. Needs lots of time though. Drink in 2025. 94/100

Galloni über: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma

-- Galloni: Deep ruby. Flint, herbs and blueberry on the rich nose. Then also rich and dense in the mouth, featuring a compact mouthfeel and flinty dark fruit and herbal flavors nicely supported by youthfully chewy but noble tannins. 92/100

Wine Enthusiast über: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma

-- Wine Enthusiast: A rich, fragrant red, with saturated boysenberry coulis, oak spice, pomegranate and black tea leaf aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and well-meshed, with fine-grained tannins firming the fresh and lingering, graphite-laced finish. Best from 2021 through 2029. 92/100

Mein Winzer

Masciarelli
