Lobenberg: Ein Ereignis! Der beste Chardonnay Neuseelands? Neben Dogpoint sicherlich. Zumindest die Nummer 1 der Nordinsel. Kurze Standzeit, Ganztraubenpressung, Spontanvergärung. Im französischen Holz vergoren und ausgebaut, minimale Batonnage. Satte Frucht, Pfirsich, Nektarine und Mango, sehr reich und voll und doch elegant wie ein Puligny Montrachet. Vibrierender Gaumen, Piment Pfeffer mit satter, saftiger Frucht, wieder Nüsse, mineralisch salzige Länge. Stylischer Chardonnay, schön straff dabei, superbe Definition. 96-97/100

-- Suckling: This has a very complex array of fruit, from lemon and grapefruit through white and yellow peach and nectarine, then into mango notes. There’s a little honey and nougat, as well as a minerally edge. The palate has intense flavors that follow the aromas and aligns them in a textural masterpiece of elegant length and discreet power. -- Galloni: This Chardonnay is expansive, filling the mouth with its subtle flavors yet retaining a sense of lightness. Its girth is wrapped in a firm belt of acidity that holds everything into a streamlined whole. Chardonnay is a non-aromatic variety and the fine aromas of nectarine and oatmeal combine with a barrel-derived smoky note on the drawn-out finish. 96/100

Complex and compelling, it's undoubtedly one of Kumeu River's top recent efforts. Medium to full-bodied, plump and generous on the palate, yet marked by zesty acids and a bright, citrusy finish, it's wonderfully balanced and drinkable now, yet it should age effortlessly for at least a decade. 96/100
