Lobenberg: Der Topwein von Vinos Valtuille, diesem Hot-Spot Ort der Mencia. Das Epizentrum des Nordwestens. Über 85 Jahre alte Reben in Hang- und Hochlagen verschiedenster Expositionen und nur gut 30 hl/ha Ertrag. Bio im Weinberg, Lehm und Sandböden, viele verschiedene Plots um Valtuille gesamthaft zu repräsentieren, quasi gemischter Satz mal anders, Mencia aus verschiedensten Lagen, Böden und Expositionen zusammen in großen, 100 hl Stahltanks vergoren. Teilweise Ganztraubenfermentation. Ausbau dann in großen Holzfudern. Die Nase ist fast als wild zu bezeichnen, leuchtendes Dunkelrot mit violetten Reflexen. Wilde schwarze und rote Beeren, auch Holunder, Blaubeere und etwas Cassis, Veilchen, Lakritze und dunkle Erde. Der Wein ist dicht und kraftvoll, aber nie fett, eher würzig mineralisch mit sehr frischem Zug. Und der Wein hat Größe, käme sowas aus dem etablierteren Priorat, er würde mindestens das Doppelte kosten. Nordwest-Spanien ist ganz sicher die spannendste Region Spaniens, und Spanien insgesamt ist für mich weltweit DER Hot-Spot für eine Weinrevolution zur Hochlage und zur Frische. Unter 15 Euro solch eine Qualität? Anderswo unvorstellbar. 93-94/100

Weingut über: La Premisa Mencia

-- Weingut: Vineyards over 85 years old around Valtuille de Abajo. Yields go around 4.500 kg/ha. Coming from clay to sandy soils, mostly located on gentle slopes, with diverse orientations. In this wine we make a mixture of different areas of Valtuille, trying to reflect the diversity of soils and orientations that El Bierzo has, and the balance that these allow us. Manual harvested in small cases of 15 kg. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation takes place in Stainless steel vats, trying to maintain temperatures steady below 28oC. Then we place the wine in 10.000 liter wooden foudre. Intensive Red color with violets hints. On the nose it is extremely fresh. Black and red fruits such as blackberries and wild berries; very earthy coming from the Bierzo soils such as roasted notes smoke and liquorice, some hints of balsamic aromas. The wine is firmly structured on the palate, with incredible depth and a persistent fruitdriven finish. In this wine you can appreciate the liveliness of the D.O. Bierzo character, and the power and structure provided by its anciente vineyards, which a light stay through the barrel, provide a perfect roundness.
