Grain Gamay Vieilles Vignes
-- Parker: The 2018 Grain Gamay is from old vines rooted in the granitic terroirs of the Domaine des Claives, in the amphitheater of the Combe d'Enfer in Fully. Cherry colored, this wine opens like an essence of Gamay, with pear skin aromas along with black cherry and ripe black berry aromas. The wine reveals the purity and floral aromas of granite and is absolutely fascinating. On the palate, this is a deliciously ripe and juicy, intense and silky-textured Gamay of great finesse and elegance. Can Gamay get any better? This is an amazing fleshy but finessed Gamay that was fermented with the carbonic maceration method. The grapes were picked in the early morning at 95° Oechsle, and the fermenting must was foot trodden only after reaching 55° Oechsle. The wine aged in used 400-liter barrels for one year. In fact, the tannins are very silky and integrated into the seamless texture, and the finish is pure and salivatingly salty. A great Gamay from the Valais. Tasted at the domain in Fully in January 2020. 96/100
