Gewürztraminer Mambourg Grand Cru
-- Parker: Picked the same day like the sibling Mambourg S (Steiniger Weg) and with 15.8% potential alcohol, the 2012 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Mambourg is actually a dry styled Vendange Tardive. 'I never pick too late. You need to have ripe grapes first before noble rot arrives. I don't go the risk to wait for more concentration, whereas I loose acidity, precision and finesse,' says Marc Tempé. Clear, intense and elegant on the nose with honey, pineapple and lemon aromas, and clearly more confit/confiture notes than the 2011. Rich, round and elegant on the palate, more honey-sweet than 2011 but with the same vitalizing and lingering freshness, salinity and firm tannin structure, this is a long and complex Traminer with a dry finish and cumquat flavors in the aftertaste. 93+/100
