Gewürztraminer Mambourg Grand Cru
-- Parker: The 2011 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Mambourg includes the exceptional Steiniger Weg parcel with its 80+ year old vines since the Mambourg S cuvée was not produced in 2011. In contrast to the Furstentum Gewurztraminer, the Mambourg is always fermented and aged in large foudres of 800 to 1,200 liters, not in pièces or barriques. Bottled in September 2013, the 2011 offers an elegant and fresh, lovely, complex and mineral or stony bouquet that displays the characteristic lemon zest aromas along with aromatic herbal and floral flavors. Concentrated, piquant, stunningly fresh and elegant on the palate where the mineral, extremely salty taste gives such a stimulating dimension, which is quite rare for Gewurztraminer. This dry-styled wine is really electrifying, full of energy and tension, and the long and mineral finish with orange confiture flavors in the sappy aftertaste completes what can be called a Traminer cathedral. This is probably the most refreshing and exciting wine I had from the 2011 vintage. 95/100
