Cote Rotie La Peroline (Chavaroche)
-- Jeb Dunnuck: First released in 1983, the 2017 Côte Rôtie La Chavaroche comes from the Côte Brune side of the appellation, in the Chavaroche lieu-dit. This is a tiny 1.2-hectare parcel of 40-year-old vines. Where the Les Journaries is perfumed and already complex, this is certainly more backward and reticent, with powerful smoked red and black fruits, peppery herbs, sandalwood, and cured meats. Structured and tannic on the palate, yet also concentrated, it has everything you could want from a great Côte Rôtie, but it's going to need 7-8 years of bottle age to show it. It's a gorgeous, old school beauty I'd be happy to have in the cellar. 96/100
