-- Galloni: Dark red. Musky aromas of wild game and white pepper. Markedly less fruity than the top Côte de Nuits grand crus that preceded it, but boasts outstanding sappy energy and soil-driven salinity. Extremely closed today, with its tight tannic spine showing a slightly raw quality that will require long-term bottle aging. Offers outstanding potential but this is tough going today. 'This wine is not compatible with whole-cluster fermentation, as it's already powerful enough,' notes Hervet. -- Stephen Tanzer 92-95/100
