-- Galloni: The 2019 L'If is the sort of wine I would like to spend hours with. There is just too much to it. At times the 2019 is opulent and quite racy, and yet in other moments its the underlying minerality and tension in the wine that are most evident. Black cherry, herb, incense, licorice and mocha gradually open over time. The 25% Cabernet Franc comes through nicely, both in the wine's aromatic profile and overall structure. L'If is a wine to buy and cellar for a decade or more. I loved it. 97+/100

Lobenberg: L’If ist eine Eibe. Das Wahrzeichen dieses zweiten, neuen Weinguts von Jacques Thienpont von Chateau Le Pin. Die Weinberge sind 5 Hektar groß, 100% Merlot. Direkt unterhalb von Troplong Mondot, beidseitig der Straße. Bei L'If ist das Terroir Lehm und Kalkstein. Nur 4 Hektar der 5 sind in Produktion. Die Reben sind im Schnitt 30 Jahre alt. Dichte, würzige, typische Merlot Nase mit dieser schwarzen Kirsche, Brombeere, reife Zwetschge. Eher dichte Natur als die pure Eleganz. Dennoch fein, nichts Grobes kommt rüber. Erinnert mich in dieser Natur-Ausprägung ein bisschen an Pontet Canet. Sehr feiner, polierter, eleganter Mund. Man merkt die Handschrift des Weinmachers Guillaume Thienpont von VCC. Diese totale Eleganz und dieser sensationelle Schliff. Das ist schon ultrapolierte Merlot im Mund ohne ganz schick zu sein. Eher in Richtung Natur. Ganz fein schwebend. Extreme Eleganz und mit einer schönen salzigen Zwetschgenspur über die Zunge laufend. Auch hier die schwarze Kirsche im Nachhall. Eukalyptus und Minze. Schöne frische Orangenschalen. Das passt sehr gut. Ein sehr sanfter und supereleganter, feiner Merlot. Auf keinen Fall eine Wuchtbrumme. Einfach nur fein. 97/100

-- Wine Cellar Insider: Dark in color with a purple accent to the deep ruby color, the wine is lush, rich, full-bodied and opulently textured. The dark plums, chocolate, blackberry and boysenberry taste great and feel even better. Texturally the wine is plush, the tannins are velvety and the finish delivers layer after layer of dark red and black fruit. Give this between 7-10 years and you will have a very special treat here. The wine is produced from blending 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. 96-98/100
