Lobenberg: Dieser Saint Emilion Grand Cru wird organisch bewirtschaftet und von dem auf Pavie Macquin bewährten Team des Regisseurs Nicolas Thienpont und dem Star-Önologen Stephan Derenoncourt erzeugt. Die überragende Lage an den Cotes neben Pavie, kurz vor Tertre Roteboeuf, weist mit das beste Terroir auf, Sand und Kies auf reinem Kalkstein. Perfekt für die Ausdruckskraft der Merlot und überragend bei schwierigen Wetterverhältnissen, seit nunmehr 4 Jahren einer der Topwerte Saint Emilions. Schwarz mit leichtem Violettrand. Sehr ätherische Nase nach schwarzer Kirsche und Brombeere, Cassis, frische Feige und schöne Blumigkeit, Rosen und Veilchen. Leichte Exotik mit getrockneter Aprikose darunter. Er drückt wuchtig, aber nicht zu fett, immer viel Reinheit und Klarheit ausstrahlend, der Wein singt rassig in der Nase. Betörend, nur der Duft reicht schon. Kaum erwartet steigert sich der Wein im Mund noch einmal, betörende, aber nicht fette Fruchtfülle, wieder Brombeere, schwarze Waldbeeren, Cassis, frische Pflaume, Schwarzkirsche, feine Süße. Der Wein wird nie fett oder zu wichtig, der komplexe Gesang herrscht immer vor, sehr verspielt. Tolle, samtig seidige Länge ohne Ende, immer auf der Finesseseite bleibend, feinste Süße mit viel Charme, anders im Charakter, aber fast mit der Klasse des 2005ers. 96+/100

-- Galloni: One of my absolute favorite wines in this vertical is the 2008 Larcis Ducasse. Black cherry, plum, smoke, licorice, graphite and incense wrap around the palate in a deep, unctuous Saint-Émilion endowed with remarkable depth and pure sensuality. The tannins have softened enough that the 2008 can be enjoyed relatively soon, but it also has the depth to age. This is a superb showing. 97/100

-- Parker: For decades to come, the 2008 Larcis Ducasse will undoubtedly be compared with this estate's immortal 2005. I did not expect such a blockbuster effort from this St.-Emilion property, but low yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare and a harvest that lasted from October 9th to October 20th produced a wine with the highest alcohol level, 14.2%, ever achieved. Consultants Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt seemed to have coaxed just about everything one could from this extraordinary terroir. The final blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc has resulted in an opaque purple-colored wine exhibiting a sweet, almost intoxicating perfume of blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with notions of spring flowers, forest floor, and damp earth. Full-bodied and opulent with an outrageously pure, textured mouthfeel, sweet tannin, and slightly more acidity than the monster 2005, this is a tour de force as well as one of the most compelling wines of the vintage. Given the global economic crisis, I suspect the price should be one-third to one-half of the 2005. In short, that means readers should buy, buy, buy. The 2008 should be approachable after bottling (because of the sweetness of the tannins as well as the extraordinary ripe fruit), and evolve for 20-30 years. 95-97/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Still vibrant color, the 2008 Château Larcis Ducasse offers a beautiful bouquet of blackcurrants, leafy herbs, damp earth, and hints of forest floor. This thrilling 2008 is ripe, full-bodied, has terrific purity of fruit, and more flesh and charm than most in the vintage. It’s just now at the early stages of prime drinking and should cruise for another two decades. 95/100
