Lobenberg: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot. Die Ernte des Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste fand zwischen dem 25. September und dem 9. Oktober statt. Ertrag bei nur 30 Hektoliter pro Hektar. Wie schon bei dem zweiten Chateau Haut Batailley ist auch der Grand-Puy-Lacoste ungewöhnlich in seiner charmanten Rotkirschnase, nochmal eine Spur kirschiger. Das ist Volnay in feinster Ausprägung. Das ist ein Domaine d'Angerville im Charme und in seiner Dichte sicherlich eine der besten Premier Cru-Lagen im Burgund. Im Mund kommt wunderbare Frische dazu. Singende, cremig-kreidige und steinige Mineralität, feine Salzspur. Wieder komplett über Kirsche laufend. Im ersten Ansatz des Weins kaum zu spüren: Die große Tanninmasse, die komplett seidig ist. Nichts Hartes, und doch unglaublich lang. Das merkt man erst im langen Nachhall. Sowas von geschliffen und poliert. Irgendwo schwingt dieser Wein zwischen Burgund, Volnay und den super-seidig-feinen Chateauneufs von Clos des Papes und Vieille Julienne. Der Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste hat Rasse, der Wein hat Feinheit, der Wein schwingt. Es ist fast ein Jahrhundertwein, die innere Spannung und Power sind trotz der unendlichen Feinheit da. Es ist nicht 2010, aber es ist das große feine Vergnügen. Das, was man in einem solchen Jahr lange vergeblich gesucht hat. Eine Ode an die Freude, brillant. Sicherlich nach Pontet Canet, Mouton, Latour und Pichon Lalande das fünfte Highlight Pauillacs. 96-97/100

-- Gerstl: Herrlich, der Duft ist wunderbar präzis und klar, schwarze Kirschen, geniale Terroirtiefe, duftet sehr edel und strahlt Persönlichkeit aus. Das ist ein sehr typischer, männlicher GPL, steht da wie eine Eins und birgt auch jede Menge Feinheiten in sich. Unter den verschiedenen Jahrgängen GPL ist das einer der feineren, macht richtig Spass, hat auch etwas tänzerisch Verspieltes an sich, schlicht herrlich. Zusammen mit Pichon-Lalande einer der seine Typizität schon im Jungwein ganz präzise zeigt. 19/20

-- Parker: The Château Grand Puy Lacoste 2014 is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot between 25 September and 9 October at 33 hectoliter per hectare. The aromatics are not as immediate as the Haut-Batailley and demand more coaxing from the glass, but that comes with the territory. It unfurls with each swirl, black fruits at first, then GPL’s trademark, graphite and gravel scents storm into the room. Leaving the glass aside for 10 minutes there is a distant tang of shucked oyster shells. The palate is understated on the entry. This is not a powerhouse Grand-Puy-Lacoste, rather one that emphasizes finesse and precision. It is almost unerringly low-key and yet there is an enormous length already in place. As usual, I suspect that its secrets (or at least some of them) will be unlocked during its barrel maturation. One of the appellation's most cerebral offerings. 93-95/100

-- Suckling: This is a wine with a dense center, wonderful fruit, polished and refined tannins and a persistent finish. Full-bodied, long and intense. Beautiful pure cabernet character. Real wine. 82% cabernet sauvignon and 18% merlot. Higher percentage of cabernet than normal. 93-94/100

-- Gabriel: 82 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 18 % Merlot. 33 hl/ha. Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Das Bouquet ist präzise, zeigte einen reifen, direkten Cabernetausdruck welcher fast parfümiert wirkt. Im zweiten Ansatz Cassis, Brombeerblüten, Veilchen und Edelhölzer, fast tänzerisch vom sehr eleganten Körper her. Im sehr eleganten Gaumen gibt er sich balanciert und saftig und setzt dabei auf Finessen, dabei wird seine Power in keiner Art und Weise geschmälert, die Adstringenz verbindet sich mit ganz feinen Muskeln, die Aromatik im langen Finale bleibt faszinierend im blaubeerigen Bereich. Genialer, hochwertiger Pauillac-Spass. Diesen Wein werde ich kaufen! Die Erklärung für die Qualität vom Jahrgang lieferte uns der Besitzer Jean François Borie beim Verkosten gleich selber mit: «Wir haben diesen 2014er Grand-Puy-Lacoste einfach nur begleitet. Er brauchte keine Hilfe!». Ich verkostete ihn einmal auf dem Weingut und noch einmal an der Union-des-Grand-Crus-Probe auf Lynch-Moussas. Fast war ich geneigt die 19-Punkte-Karte zu zücken... 18/20

-- Vinum: Als Erstes stösst der Gaumen auf ein Tanningerüst allererster Güte, das mit dem Schliff und dem Korn von Marmor für Festigkeit, Halt und Dichte sorgt, das Finale ist so frisch, lang und kristallen fruchtig, dass der aromatische Ausdruck erst nach Minuten verhallt. Meisterhaft. 18/20

Even with all of its explosive energy, the 2014 is not an obvious or huge wine; rather it is a Pauillac that draws the taster in with its multiple shades of dimension.
