Lobenberg: Dichte Johannisbeer-Zwetschgennase mit schwarzer Kirsche. Tolle Waldfrucht mit süßer Wucht. Für Carmes Haut Brion relativ feiner Mund. Guter Schliff, samtig seidiges Tannin, ein wenig Süße, fleischiger Saft in der Mitte um das Ganze zu balancieren. Endlich mal nicht so hammerhart extrahiert wie sonst so oft. Das ist, so stelle ich voller Verblüffung fest, mit oder sogar vor Seguin der beste Wein der Appellation Pessac! Was ist hier tolles passiert? Dass das Terroir direkt neben Haut Brion groß ist war immer klar, bisherige Besitzer und Weinmacher haben es aber oft versaut. Carmes ist gerade erst verkauft worden, hier scheint jetzt die Post endlich in die richtige Richtung zu fahren. Nicht ganz groß, das geht 2013 nicht, aber schon der Primus hier. 93-94+/100

-- Gabriel: 59 % Cabernet Franc, 22 % Merlot, 19 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 21 hl/ha, 13.4 Vol %. Eine halbe Ernte mit nur 15'000 Flaschen. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Dunkelbeeriges Bouquet, kalter Darjeelingtee, Tabaknoten und Korinthen. Im Gaumen genial, dunkles Malz, dunkle Edelhölzer, samtig fliessende Tannine, viel Lakritze und Brombeermark im Finale. Ist das wirklich ein so grosser Wein aus einem so schwierigen Jahrgang? Gehört zu den allerbesten 2013er und ist somit, in seiner Preiskategorie schon fast eine Klasse für sich. Hat mich sehr beeindruckt! Drei Mal verkostet. Das letzte Mal als letzte Fassprobe kurz bevor wir - am Ende des 15tägigen Trips- zum Flughafen Merignac fuhren. 19/20

The results of Pichet’s investments and the draconian selection process are stunning as this is one of the stars of the vintage. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of sweet black cherries, charcoal, graphite, white chocolate, camphor and asphalt. With a medium- to full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, and an overall completeness that is rare in this vintage, this is a major sleeper of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2023. 91-93/100

-- Galloni: The 2013 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is one of the riper, more opulent wines readers will come across in this vintage. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke and spices all hit the palate as the 2013 shows off its super-distinctive personality. The style is ripe and flashy, but it all works very nicely. The creamy, textured finish is a thing of pure beauty. Quite unusually, in 2013, Les Carmes is dominated by Cabernet Franc, which makes up a whopping 59% of the blend, along with 22% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted three times. 89-92/100
