Lobenberg: 22 Hektar. Kalkstein-Plateau, unter leichter Sandauflage liegend. Der Zweitwein Croix Canon. Canon selbst ist wie gesagt 22 Hektar allerbestes Terroir. Canon muss sich nur noch mit Beausejour Duffau und Ausone messen. Spätestens seit 2015 ist Canon dann reiner Kult. 77% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc. Keinerlei Frostschäden 2017. Ganz feine Lakritze und Veilchen in der Nase. Darunter aber auch ein bisschen Pfirsich, Orangenzesten. Sehr fein und ätherisch. Stilistisch ist Canon sehr viel mehr bei Beausejour Duffau als bei Ausone. Denn wie bei Beausejour wird auch hier zwar sehr auf Frische gesetzt, aber nicht so dramatisch wie bei Ausone. Dieser Wein zeigt wunderbar reife rote Frucht neben der schwarzen Frucht. Schlehe, Himbeere, rote Johannisbeere. Eher fein bleibend, eher die Schwarzkirsche und die Brombeere stützend. Der Wein ist sehr stimmig, ist voller Harmonie, aber er hat nicht ansatzweise diese extrem schicke Finesse des 100-Punkte-Weins aus 2016. Es ist ein wunderschöner Wein, und hätte ich die beiden Vorgängerjahrgänge nicht noch präsent, würde ich ihn wohl höher bewerten. So ist es einfach ein Traum Saint-Emilion, ein Muss-Kauf, aber trotzdem hat er schon seinen Preis. Also ein Muss-Kauf für sehr wohlhabende Liebhaber. Der letzte Kick von 2016 fehlt, aber der Wein macht unglaublich Freunde, man mag ihn einfach trinken. Und etwas Größe hat er auch. 97/100

-- Galloni: Nicolas Audebert and his team have done it again. The 2017 Canon is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. Rich and vertical in construction, the 2017 possesses off-the-charts richness and intensity in all of its dimensions. In the glass, the 2017 is sumptuous and layered, with superb detail and tons of sheer pedigree. In 20 years, readers will have a fabulous time tasting the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 together and debating their respective merits. Dark plum fruit, striking Franc aromatics and the clean, focused energy of Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau make for a ravishing, exquisite wine of the highest level. In a word: breathtaking. 97/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Showing spectacularly, the 2017 Chateau Canon checks in as a final blend of 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc that’s from one of the most exceptional terroirs in the appellation. Hitting 14% alcohol (the pH is 3.66), it reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as gorgeously sweet raspberries and cassis-like fruit interwoven with notes of spring flowers, rose petal, white chocolate, and spice. While it doesn’t have the massive opulence of the 2015 and 2016, it’s more classically styled as well flawlessly balanced, with a terrific sense of minerality, ultra-fine tannins, and a brilliant finish. Give bottles 5-7 years in the cellar, and it will evolve gracefully for 30-40 years. Hats off to Nicolas Audebert as well as the team of Thomas Duclos for one of the wines of the vintage! 97/100

-- Parker: Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Canon bursts from the glass with expressive notions of baked black cherries, kirsch, plum preserves and black raspberries plus hints of red roses, Ceylon tea, black olives and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate is wonderfully elegant and refined, with a soft, finely grained texture and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. The blend is 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc and it was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new. 96/100

-- International Wine Report: A monumental wine in this vintage the 2017 Château Canon is composed of 73% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc this opens to stunning aromas ripe dark berries which are joined together with nuances of spices, tobacco and graphite, violets and mineral nuances that all take shape. On the palate this is medium-bodied and impeccably structured with lovely underlying acidity framing its core and keeping it fresh and inviting through the finish. This shows wonderful elegance and class, and is ultimately an age-worthy wine that should have a sensational future ahead. 96/100

-- Suckling: Extremely perfumed with blackcurrants, flowers, gunmetal, gunpowder and blackberries. Full-bodied, tight and reserved. The tannins are so tightly knit and just run through the center. Needs at least three or four years to open. A blend of 77% merlot and 23% cabernet franc. Better after 2023. 95/100

-- Gerstl: Der Duft ist ein Traum, sagenhaft fein, superelegant, tiefgründig, reich, aber immer die Eleganz in den Vordergrund stellend. Am Gaumen besträtigt er sich als edle burgundische Deliktesse, alles ist eine einzige Einheit, dieser so superfeine Wein zeigt aber auch eine eindrückliche innere Kraft, das ist echt genial, raffiniert wie immer in den letzten Jahren. 19/20
