Lobenberg: Schwarzer Wein. Ungeheure Duftwolke, immens in der üppigen Wucht. Ein dichter Strom schwarzer Beeren, Schwarzkirsche, Brombeere und Cassis mit feinem Schokoladensoufflé und Nutella, alles ganz reif und betörend. Sehr, sehr sexy! Und dazu feine, rote Waldbeeren. Walderdbeere und Himbeere mit einem Hauch roter Kirsche und Schlehe stemmen sich gegen den dichten, satten, samtigen Tanninteppich, in Nase und Mund zugleich. Zusammen hat das nicht nur eine ungeheure Intensität sondern irre Rasse und tolle Frische, etwas Orangenschale, dann noch mal Brombeerkonfitüre und Cassis. Dieser Wein mit irrem Potenzial braucht Zeit obwohl er fast erschlagend vor Genuss anwesend ist, die Feinheit und Rasse wird nach 10 Jahren siegen. Das ist der Gegenentwurf des Jahrgangs zu Ausone. Das ist Angelus in einer neuen Dimension und eine Art 'best of'. Wenn schon Blockbuster, dann ganz sicher so! 100/100

-- Parker: A candidate for perfection with a few more years of bottle age, this great vintage of Angelus has an almost impenetrable black/purple color and a gorgeous nose of incense, graphite, blackberry liqueur, truffles and spring flowers. The wine is full-bodied, with a voluptuous texture a magnificent concentration and purity of fruit, a stunning finish of close to a minute, and wonderfully sweet, velvety tannins that make for a prodigious Angelus that should turn out to be one of the all-time greats ever made at this estate. Drink it over the next 25-50 years. 99+/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: To compare with the 2015, proprietor Hubert de Boüard opened a bottle of his 2009 Angelus and the similarities between the two vintages are obvious. It too is a massive, opulent, full-bodied effort that’s loaded with notions of blackberry liqueur, chocolate, roasted herbs and licorice, and it has a sexy, layered style that just begs to be drunk. This monster Saint-Emilion checks in just behind the otherworldly 2005 and is neck and neck with the 2015, both of which are young and need bottle age. 98+/100

-- Decanter: Intense chocolate and turmeric spices hit you right form the first moment. This is richly textured with a palate that is still almost primary fruit - an intense and impressive wine, with blackberry and black cherry fruits dominant, given balance and freshness by eucalyptus and mint leaf, helped no doubt by the Cabernet Franc that is such a signature of Angélus. Plenty of swagger here, vintage taking precedence over terroir at this stage of its life, and I would suggest giving it another few years in bottle before drinking. Harvest September 25th to October 14th. 97/100
