Lobenberg: In den Cepparello kommt nur das penibelst ausgelesene Traubenmaterial von Paolo de Marchi. Die Gärung findet im offenen Gärständer statt und der Ausbau während 18 Monaten in teilweise neuen und teilweise gebrauchten Barriques. Dunkle Frucht in der Nase, reife Brombeere, feine Würze dazu, süße Nelke und Veilchen. Am Gaumen zeigt sich die saftige Rotfruchtigkeit dann aber wieder zunehmend, Johannisbeere, Griottekirsche, rote Beete, erdig mit feinziselierter, weicher Säurestruktur. Viel Graphit und feinsalzige Anklänge umrunden die verspielte, florale, ultra-elegante Frucht. Der Cepparello hat einen enormen Geradeauslauf, zeigt sich perfekt fokussiert mit saftiger Blutorangensäure bis in den delikaten Nachhall. Ein großartiger Wein, der lange Zeit viel Freude bereiten wird, wenn er sich noch einige Jahre harmonisiert hat. 97+/100

-- Falstaff: Sattes, kraftvolles Rubin. Konzentrierte und offene Nase, satt nach reifen Brombeeren, Schwarzkirsche und würzigem Unterholz, etwas Zigarrenkiste. Rund und geschmeidig am Gaumen, viel präsente, knackige Frucht nach Himbeere, öffnet sich mit feinmaschigem Tannin, strömt ruhig dahin. 96/100

This vintage is especially bright and ethereal with a true sense of luminosity and clarity that radiates from both the wine's appearance and its fragrant bouquet. Tart cherry and cassis segue to balsam herb and wild violets. To the palate, the wine shows muscle and determination with sweet tannins and impressive depth of favor. Cepparello remains true to its unique identity in this vintage. Production is 42,000 bottles. 96/100

Readers will find a Cepparello that is more about persistence than volume. Dark red/purplish berry fruit, spice, lavender and menthol are laced into the silky finish. 94+/100

-- Decanter: Like the 2018 Chianti Classico, Cepparello shows no dilution, although the pure Sangiovese fruit gives a more austere structure. The sour cherry nose is lightly smoky but refined. Rich and very concentrated, the palate is supported by firm tannins that are in stark contrast to the breezier Chianti Classico. At present it's rather closed and furry, and needs time to harmonise and the tannins to integrate. The high alcohol doesn't show, and there's ample energy on the long finish. 94/100
