Der Blend aus 50% Syrah und 50% Petit Verdot wird in einer Mischung aus Stahl- und Zementtanks vergoren. Dann wird eine Hälfte 12 Monate lang in 500 Liter fassenden Eichen Tonneaux in Erst- und Zweitbelegung ausgebaut, die zweite Hälfte verbleibt in Stahl- und Betontanks. Die Trauben kommen aus der Maremma, wo die Reben auf Schwemmsandböden wurzeln. Tiefes Rubinrot mit Violett. Die Nase ist intensiv und druckvoll duftend nach Veilchen, Flieder, saftigen Brombeeren und Herzkirschen, dunkler Schokolade und mediterraner Matcchia Kräuter. Die saftig runden Tannine gleiten sanft durch den Mund, und was die Würze und Dichte angeht, könnten wir hier auch an der Rhône sein. Dieser Wein wurde nach den hohen Qualitätsansprüchen von Filippo Chia gemacht und ist im Preis-Genussverhältnis nur schwer zu schlagen. Ganz sicher »everybody’s darling«!

This is a blockbuster 50–50 blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot vinified in stainless steel tanks and concrete. The grapes for Castello Romitorio’s 2022 Romitorio come from the Scansano area but are processed at the Montalcino winery, making for a creative Bordeaux-meets-Rhône experiment set in Tuscany. The wine shows vinous richness with layers of black fruit and a smoky nuance that recalls the wild hills of the Maremma, while notes of cracked white pepper, garrigue and juniper berry lend a distinctly aromatic profile. First produced in 2008, this bottling delivers racy freshness alongside lingering tannins, with a production of 37,000 bottles.

Syrah and Petit Verdot shape the 2022 Romitorio, a dark, polished Toscana Rosso with generous aromas of lavender, blackberry, fresh plum, olive, and crushed herbs. The palate is full-bodied and supple, with silky tannins and bright acidity that keeps it moving, never letting the wine feel weighed down. It’s a satisfying, focused red with plenty of appeal over the coming decade. Drink 2026-2036.

Blackberry, boysenberry, bacon fat and violet aromas and flavors highlight this supple red. Beautifully integrated, with polished tannins and lively acidity driving the fruit-stained aftertaste. Syrah and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2038. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 4,160 cases made, 2,600 cases imported.

Tense and polished, with aromas of ripe cherries, red plums, dried flowers, red licorice and a touch of iodine. The medium- to full-bodied palate is filled with similar fruit and a nicely velvety finish. Drink or hold.
