Parker über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG

-- Parker: This is a re-release of a wine that first hit the market some seven years ago. The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is being reintroduced to the market, with only 2,500 bottles. This is a stunning wine that absolutely merits this considerable score increase. Made when dottore Franco Biondi Santi was alive and very present in the winery, this wine shows spectacular elegance and finesse, articulated with fine aromas of forest berry, blue flower, eucalyptus and lightly barbecued smoke. The wine shows extreme Sangiovese elegance and purity, and while the wine is almost fragile in approach, it ultimately reveals more brawn, volume and staying-power than anticipated. 98/100

Decanter über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG

-- Decanter: As Biondi-Santi is holding back their 2012 Riserva for another year, the estate is instead re-releasing two older Riservas from diverse vintages. The 2006 is the more muscular expression, hailing from a particularly warm, dry year. Almost 13 years after harvest, this is still closed and takes time for some cellar scents to blow off. It combines base notes of dark, wet earth with more lifted orange zest and wild strawberries. It's potent and imposing on the palate, though ample tannins are balanced by dense fruit. It becomes more fragrant and giving as it sits in the glass, finishing with a stoniness. This is very much in its youth with a long life ahead. 96/100

Galloni über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG

-- Galloni: The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva comes across as a bit reticent. It reveals lovely detail and nuance, but without the firmness of many other young vintages. Today the 2006 is quite accessible. I will be surprised if it doesn't start shutting down at some point. Regardless, the 2006 appears to be built more on finesse rather than power. Freshly cut flowers, hard candy and licorice are layered into the finish. 95/100

Suckling über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG

-- Suckling: This is a beautiful Brunello with dark-berry, balsamic and cedar aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, round and rich. Flavorful finish. Shows focus and balance. Traditional and fascinating. Drink or hold. 1,500 bottles released in 2019. 95/100
