Blaufränkisch Burgenland
-- Parker: The 2017 Burgenland Blaufränkisch is dark in color and flavors and still reductive on the nose, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and raspberry and a fascinating bouquet of herbs and spices, black pepper and saline/iodine notes. Smooth, refined and elegant on the silky-textured and refreshingly pure palate, this is a red that combines the intense and perfectly concentrated fruit of Blaufränkisch with very fine tannins and the subtle limestone terroir of its origins in Lutzmannsburg and the Leithagebirge. The tannins are fine and juicy, and the wine is tart, fruity and very elegant, with stimulating freshness and a saline complex. This is another excellent red from Roland Velich and a perfect entry into the Blaufränkisch world. Tasted in June 2020. 93/100
