Lobenberg: Pira ist eine Einzellage in Castiglione Falletto. Das Weingut hat die Lage 1989 erworben und zugleich das Weingut hier neu errichtet, Umzug von Barbaresco. Rebalter 35 bis 50 Jahre. Ausbau klassisch in neutralem Holz. Das ist alles andere als ein einfacher Barolo. Er verbrachte rund 5 Jahre im Holz. Der Duft ist kühl und voller Finesse. Sauerkirsche, Brombeere und dahinter Veilchen. Mit Belüftung kommen dann auch dunklere Noten hinzu in Form von getrockneten Rosenblättern, Pfeffer und einer ätherischen Komponente. Am Gaumen gleitet der Barolo dahin, hat aber dennoch eine engmaschige Struktur. Wirkt samtig und würzig. Die Frucht ist ganz klar und eben so kühl wie im Bouquet angedeutet. Klingt langsam aus. In einem so klassischen, etwas Jahrgang wie 2013 unglaublich gelungen, weil Roagna vom Stil her allgemein burgundisch und fein ist. 96-97/100

-- Parker: The 2013 Barolo Pira sees fruit sourced from a five-hectare plot (with 16,800 bottles made). The Pira vineyard is Roagna’s home-base parcel and is the biggest single vineyard the family cultivates in the Barolo appellation. Pira is easy to recognize in terms of bouquet, thanks to those distinctive aromas of dried rose petal and balsam herb that lift gently from the bouquet. Due to long maceration times, which are the norm here at Roagna, the wine’s color shows medium intensity, but that color should be fixed and stable over the long haul because any remaining material in suspension has since fallen out, thanks to the slow fermentation process. This wine delivers evident structure and a touch of rawness or naked nerve that underlines the wine’s young age (and, consequently, its long future aging potential). Dark fruit and a touch of sweet spice add volume to the finish. 96/100

-- Galloni: The 2013 Barolo Pira is dark and powerful to its core. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2013 is all nerves and muscle. Iron, blood, smoke, cedar, smoke and licorice give the 2013 much of its super-distinctive flavor profile. In the glass, the 2013 is wonderfully deep and exotic, with layers of dimension that open up effortlessly over time. Readers will have to be patient with the 2013, but it is hugely promising. Sadly, prices for the Roagna wines have gone up dramatically in recent years. If there is one wine that readers should absolutely not miss, it is the 2013 Barolo Pira. 95/100

-- Sebastian Bordthäuser: Farbe: Rubinrot, transparent und klar. Nase: Der 2013 Barolo Pira von Roagna oszilliert zwischen frischer Frucht und milden Gewürzen. Gewachsen an 25-60 Jahre alten Reben wird die lupenreine Kirschfrucht durch ätherische Kopfnoten erleuchtet, geröstete Mandeln und Wacholderbeeren wechseln mit Rosmarin, Weichselkirschen und Schlehen. Die Nase entblättert sich mit zunehmender Belüftung fortwährend und changiert wie ein Kaleidoskop. Rechtzeitiges karaffieren ist strengstens empfohlen. Mund: Im Antrunk übernehmen die reifen Tannine und legen das samtige Fundament, auf dem die Frucht zur Parade bläst, um mit orientalisch anmutender Würze gradlinig und transparent über des Zechers Gaumen zu fließen. Noten nach Sandelholz, Wacholder und Weihrauch werden unterlegt von feinen Kirschnoten, der präzise gearbeitete Säurenerv ist perfekt ummantelt vom engmaschigen Gerbstoff umhüllt und verleiht ihm Frische und Trinkfluss. Ein Wein von unkomplizierter Distinguiertheit mit superber Länge. Bitte die großen Gläser aus dem Schrank holen. Essen:- Auberginen im Teriyaki-Lack mit Yuzu-Sesam Dip- Knurrhahn im Ganzen auf Kompott von Blutorangen, roter Paprika und Wacholderöl- Lammschulter aus dem Ofen mit mediterranen Kräutern

Roagna liegt direkt in Barbaresco. Luca führt die Betriebsgeschichte des Familienweinguts mit seinem Vater. Nur 12 Hektar bewirtschaftet man. Diese aber mit größter Sorgfalt.
