Canada do Monte
The 2021 Canada do Monte was cropped from a dry vintage, and the wine is higher in alcohol (13%, compared with the 12.5% from 2020), but it also has better freshness, acidity and balance (pH of 3.2 and 7.15 grams of acidity). The wine comes through as more complete, complex and deep. They used a higher percentage of stainless steel (70%) and fewer barrels (30%), where the wine fermented and matured for 12 months. This displays a bright fluorescent-yellow color, always a good sign in my book, and it feels tight, flinty, tasty and lively, with notes of iodine and salt and a very tasty finish. Both 2020 and 2021 were good years and similar, with low yields, moderate rainfall and humidity. The whole Pico Island produced some 800,000 liters of wine. This was my favorite of all the vintages of Canada do Monte. 1,894 bottles were filled in January 2023.,,
