Lobenberg: Schöne Konzentration in der Nase. Helle Birnen- und Melonenfrucht, ein klein wenig Aprikose, dazu eine feine Salzigkeit wie von einer Meeresbrise und auch etwas Gesteinsanmutung. Sehr cremig und ausgewogen, gar nicht so wild wie man es von einem Azoren-Wein erwarten würde, eher schmelzend und zart. Am Gaumen ist er einerseits mundfüllend und cremig mit weißer Pampelmuse und erneut etwas Melone, etwas Limettenschale. Dann kommt viel charakteristische Salzigkeit, die Azoren-Weine oft auszeichnet, hintenraus dann wieder ganz viel Cantaloupe Melone, hallt mit feinem Schmelz aus. Ein sehr delikater Wein von den Azoren mit feiner Frucht, cremigem Mundgefühl und viel salziger Saftigkeit. 92-93/100

-- Jancis Robinson: Very pale gold. Intense aroma of struck flint and a light smoky and attractive sulphidic character – not SO2. Underneath that is a hint of surprisingly ripe citrus, but it is the 'volcanic' character that dominates, making the name totally appropriate. And on the day after opening, the fruit seems to have the upper hand in the aroma. Terrific intensity for a wine with only 12.5% alcohol grown on such poor soils, and high but fully integrated acidity. Dry, textured – a very slight friction – and very long. There's a hint of smoky honey in the empty glass even though the wine is bone dry. 17+/20

Parker über: Branco Vulcanico

-- Parker: The 2021 Branco Vulcânico is mostly Arinto dos Açores, with 15% Verdelho. It is partly oaked (30%) for five months in 30% used French oak, the rest in stainless steel. It comes in at 12.8% alcohol. A lively mid-level white with good energy and a big finish, this is full of freshness but also a certain stonewashed feel that I find in these wines, at all levels. Persistent and focused, it is well done and likely to hold throughout the decade, hopefully improving a bit along the way. This doesn't seem to have quite the energy or concentration of its big brothers, but it is a lot nicer in price. 89/100
