Lobenberg: Sori Tildin: Von den Jahrgängen 1996 bis 2011 waren circa 5% Barbera im Cuvée und da für die Barbaresco DOCG 100 Prozent Nebbiolo vorgeschrieben sind wurde der Sori San Lorenzo für diese Zeit ebenso wie Gajas andere Einzellagen unter der Langhe Nebbiolo DOC abgefüllt. Seit dem Jahrgang 2013 ist er wieder reiner Nebbiolo und unter Barbaresco DOCG. Für 12 Monate im Barrique und anschließend weitere 12 Monate im großen Holzfass ausgebaut. Der Sori Tildin ist Gajas elegantester und feinster Wein. Aber auch ein komplexer und tiefer Wein mit ungeheurer Aromenvielfalt. Von dunklen Beeren zu Schokolade, Espresso, Tabak, Lakritz und opulenten Fruchtmassen. Hochkonzentriert, hedonistisch und tief mit langem, samtigem finale. Falls Sie ihn vor 2028 öffnen, gönnen Sie dem Wein bitte ausreichend Luft. Ganz besonders im perfekten Jahr 2016 das durch die Bank im Piemont für viel Reife und Druck gesorgt hat scheint diese Lage nochmal extra klar! Schwarze Früchte, geröstete Nüsse, Gewürze, Leder und Zedernholz in der Nase. Sehr komplex, vielschichtig und elegant mit duftigem Potpourri, dabei ungemein reichhaltig. Eine Idealkomposition aus Power und Finesse. Wie alle Gaja Barbaresco Lagen entwickelt sich der Sori San Lorenzo mit einigen Jahren extra Reifezeit in der Flasche zum Höhepunkt. Seit dem Jahrgang 2013 ist er wieder reiner Nebbiolo und unter Barbaresco DOCG. Für 12 Monate im Barrique und anschließend weitere 12 Monate im großen Holzfass ausgebaut. Der 2016er ist schon monumental! Voll, rund, üppig. Dabei aber nicht schwer sondern er hat einfach unglaublich viel Druck. Reife Schwarzkirsche, Brombeere und Zwetschge. Darunter ist eine unglaublich feine Würze. Ein Hauch Vanille, ein Hauch Pfeffer und dann ein Potpourri an duftigen Blüten. Das ist Verführung pur! Im Mund sind die Tannine fein poliert, aber auch strukturiert, denn es gibt reichlich davon. Dieser Wein hat das Zeug lange zu reifen, dabei ist er aber heute schon oh so sinnlich. Falls Sie ihn vor 2028 öffnen, gönnen Sie dem Wein bitte ausreichend Luft. Er braucht definitiv mindestens fünf bis acht Stunden im Dekanter. Großartig! 100/100

-- Galloni: The 2016 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn is a fabulous, incredibly complete wine that soars out of the glass with explosive structure and vertical lift. The tannins are very much present, but also matched beautifully by the wine's aromatic intensity and overall drive. Dark macerated cherry, spice, leather, licorice, plum and mocha add darker shades of nuance. In 2016, Sorì Tildìn is a bit more brooding and bigger than it often is, and yet all the elements are impeccably balanced. It is quite simply a majestic wine of real grandeur and total class, but it is not obvious. Sorì Tildìn will appeal most to readers who understand what the truest essence of Nebbiolo is all about. In a word: magnificent! 100/100***The 2016 Barbaresco Sorì San Lorenzo is an eternal wine that will need 10-15 years in bottle to truly come around. Sorì San Lorenzo is often a big, virile wine. There is plenty of heft to the 2016, but at the same time, I also find an element of refinement and nuance that Sorì San Lorenzo has rarely, if ever, shown. Black cherry, cloves, menthol, licorice, gravel and incense are some of the many aromas and flavor that meld together in this dramatic and dramatically beautiful Barbaresco from the Gaja family. The Sorì San Lorenzo just explodes on the finish, with an array of aromas, flavors and textures that will leave readers weak at the knees. The 2016 is an outrageously beautiful, vivid wine of real gravitas and power. 98+/100***The 2016 Barbaresco Costa Russi is ripe, creamy and enveloping, as it so often is, and yet also preserves the super classic sense of structure that runs through all these wines. In 2016, Costa Russi has an extra touch of mid-palate sweetness that gives the wine its sense of immediacy. Succulent red cherry, rosewater, kirsch, mint and dried flowers meld together in the glass. Soft and sensual, with tons of allure, Costa Russi is another winner from Gaja. Time in the glass brings out the wine's density and tannins, both of which it has in spades. 98/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Coming from a warmer, south-facing site, the 2016 Barbaresco Sori Tildin is a more concentrated, vibrant wine compared to the straight Barbaresco and has vivid notes of bright cherry fruits, rose petals, road tar, violets and even a hint of orange blossom. Incredible on the palate, with medium to full body, an incredible, seamless texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a monster finish. The tannins here are unquestionably on another level and are perfectly ripe, and this just about off-the-charts 2016 has a Grand Cru Red Burgundy-like texture, elegance, and stature. This bottle didn't hit prime time until the second day, so either give bottles a healthy decant or, even better, 5-7 years in a cold cellar. 98/100***Another wine with a Burgundian silkiness (tannins this good can be hard to find in young Nebbiolo), the 2016 Barbaresco Sori San Lorenzo offers a more exotic bouquet of spiced red plums, licorice, dried herbs, rose petals, and flowery incense. This is a ripe, incredibly sexy, opulent Barbaresco that stays pure, ultra-refined, and elegant on the palate, with both tannins and acidity perfectly integrated. As with the Sori Tildin, it took plenty of air to show at its best, and despite offering incredibly pleasure today due to its balance and ripe tannins, it's needs 5-7 years of bottle age and will cruise for 25 years or more. 99/100***The 2016 Barbaresco Costa Russi is a more floral, sappy Barbaresco, offering textbook notes of black cherries, rose petals, sappy herbs, and violets. It's one of the more vibrant, juicy, and perfumed wines in the lineup and has medium to full body, bright yet integrated acidity, and the same incredibly polished yet certainly present tannins found in all these 2016s. This is another elegant 2016 that never puts a foot wrong. 100/100

-- Wine&Spirits: Sori Tildin: Angelo Gaja made his first single-cru wine from this eight-acre site south of Barbaresco village in 1970. The wine included five percent of barbera and was labeled a Langhe DOC until 2013 when, along with Gaja’s other single-vineyard bottlings, it joined the Barbaresco DOCG as a 100-percent nebbiolo wine. The 2016 Sorì Tildìn is darker and more sensuous than its San Lorenzo sibling, unfolding with saturated flavors of dark cherry, raspberry and black truffle couched in velvety tannins. Bursts of wild herbs and dark spice enliven the flavors, driving the wine forward toward a long, seamless finish. 98/100***Sori San Lorenzo: In 2004, the Gaja family began an intensive program to improve their vineyards, implementing organic composting, taking steps to increase biodiversity, and modifying the pruning system with help from the respected firm Simonit and Sirch. Work in the cellar has also evolved; while the Barbarescos still age in oak barrels, fewer are new, and barriques have been supplemented by larger tonneaux. The family is also giving the wines more time on the lees, to preserve freshness. The investment paid off in 2016, a vintage that has been characterized as near-perfect, with timely rainfall, warm summer days and cooler temperatures near harvest. According to Gaia Gaja, the grapes ripened so evenly and harmoniously that production was up by about 15 percent. Gaja’s 2016 Sorì San Lorenzo sits atop the pinnacle, combining power and concentration with sheer excitement. Its deep cherry tones take time to unfurl, gradually gaining notes of licorice, menthol, woodsy mushroom and dark spice as the wine builds toward an electric crescendo. Firm, polished tannins inject a coolness that further energizes the wine and will surely make this the longest-lived of Gaja’s glorious 2016 Barbarescos. 100/100

-- Falstaff: Sori Tildin: Funkelndes Rubingranat mit hellem Rand. Sehr präsente und intensive Nase, eröffnet mit Noten nach Waldhimbeeren und Erdbeeren, dann etwas Rosenblätter, im Hintergrund ein Hauch Leder, der das Ganze spannend macht. Vielschichtig am Gaumen, sehr konzentriert, zeigt sich zugleich sehr geschliffen und mit viel Saftigkeit versehen, sehr langer Nachhall, ein Gedicht! 100/100***Sori San Lorenzo: Leuchtendes, intensives Rubingranat. Sehr fein gezeichnete Noten, viel reife Frucht, vor allem Zwetschge und Himbeere, dazu etwas Gojibeeren, etwas Gewürznelken, wirkt sehr geschliffen. In Ansatz und Verlauf sehr fein und geschliffen, zeigt feines Tannin in vielen Schichten, salzig, im hinteren Verlauf dann fester Druck, strömt lange dahin. 98/100***Costa Russi: Leuchtendes Rubingranat mit hellem Rand. Sehr klare und einprägsame Nase, eröffnet mit Noten nach Himbeeren und Kirschen, dazu etwas Gewürznelken und Ingwer. Am Gaumen viel süßer Schmelz, gepaart mit dichtem, aber feinmaschigem Tannin, spannt einen sehr weiten Bogen, im Finale viel Druck.97/100
