Alvarinho Soalheiro Primeras Vinhas
-- Parker: The 2019 Alvarinho Primeiras Vinhas is partly (15%) aged for six months in used French barrels, the rest in stainless steel. It comes in with less than a gram of residual sugar, 7.1 of total acidity and 12.9% alcohol. This takes the 2020 regular Alvarinho and adds velvety texture, plus more concentration and power on the finish. The finish, by the way, never becomes harsh or shrill but always remains very persistent. It's serious and understated, focusing on elegance, but it never seems too understated or delicate. It's a complete wine. As good as this was on opening, it was better several hours later and even better the next day when it showed off its fine structure, the acidity lifting the fruit. At that point, it preened in its subtle power. The finish is long and fresh. It's another beautiful Primeiras Vinhas. As always, it handles the wood perfectly. It should age well, but you don't have to wait. Needless to say, it's a fine bargain. 92/100
