Mencia A Merced
-- Parker: 2018 was a very different year than 2017, with a lot more rain, a late harvest but not without challenges (fungus). And the 2018 A Merced is quite different too, though it was produced from the same vineyards in the village of San Lorenzo and following a similar process as in 2017 but with a shorter élevage, 10 months in barrel instead of 20. It has a little less ripeness/alcohol and much more freshness. Compared with the 2017, there is a lot more freshness here, and it's more aromatic and floral. The tannins are juicier, the mouthfeel more polished and sleek, and the shorter élevage has respected the character of the wine more. 3,000 bottles produced. It was bottled at the same time as the 2017 in October 2019. In the future, it will be a Vino de Villa. 94/100
