Lobenberg: DIE Legende. Seit der Übernahme durch die belgische Familie Frey und die biodynamische Tochter und Winzerin Caroline Frey ist das wieder auf dem Weg an die Spitze. Im grandiosen, puristisch kühlen Jahr 2021 gibt es für mich kaum schönere Weine als diesen so ungeheuer gradlnig, schieren Syrah aus kleinbeeriger Sirene. Chapoutiers Le Meal kommt aus dem gleichen Weinberg, auch Ferraton und Chave haben da ihre beste Reben. Alles Biodyn! Hier ist in Syrah vorne und man muss je nach Vorliebe nur noch darum streiten, ob das cool climate Purismus-Jahr 2021 oder demnächst das opulentere 22 'year of the year' darstellt. 97-100/100

-- Colin Hay: Pure, bright, fresh and very true to its identity, this is also floral, sapid, dynamic and energetic. Subtle white floral hints: wisteria and jasmine. Crunchy bright berries popping in the mouth. A touch of wood-smoke and a subtle hint of espresso. Compact and impressively imposing but without any demonstrative sense of weight. Fine-grained tannins accentuate the sensation of layering, giving this a lovely feel, shape and dynamic evolution over the palate. So soft but so much intensity too. Sapid and with up-currents of freshness. Long and supremely elegant. This continues the succession of recent greatness from La Chapelle. 97/100

-- Suckling: Incredibly deep and complex nose for the 2021 vintage with masses of forest berry, licorice and autumn trumpet mushroom aromas, with an enormous tannin structure that's very refined. The classic power of Hermitage comes through at the extremely long finish. Although the tannins are anything but aggressive, the aromas will need considerable time to fully unfurl. From parcels on the western side of the Hermitage hill with predominantly granite soils, the largest parcel being in Le Meal. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. 96/100

-- Decanter: Floral and fragrant on the nose, so beautifully expressive and inviting. Clean and clear, so smooth and seductive with strawberry, cherry and raspberry with soft florality and a tight, wet stone, slate edge giving an iron and mineral tang. Hints of blood orange - bitter zest - with clove and wood spice, pepper tobacco and liquorice too. Fun and friendly, packed full of flavour with lovely, well-integrated tannins, barely there, all the flavour and concentration is coming from the fruit. Not the most expansive or rich, this is lighter and more delicate despite the overall sense of heat and spice and fruit. Long finish, with clear terroir markers. Well defined with a sense of refinement. 3.74pH. Ageing for 12 months in French oak barrels (15% new), and in natural concrete eggs with malolactic fermentation. The first time this historic wine by Caroline Frey will be sold on the Place de Bordeaux. 96/100

-- Weinwisser: Der Hermitage La Chapelle von Paul Jaboulet Aine hat eine traditionsreiche Geschichte. Die Besitzer Familie Frey, der auch das Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux gehört, hat den Betrieb in Hermitage nun in Domaine La Chapelle umgetauft. Ab dem Jahrgang 2021 der der La Chapelle nur noch über den Handelsplatz Bordeaux vertrieben. 21 Hektar umfasst die Rebfläche, der 2021er erreichte 13,5 Vol.%. Duftig, delikat und charaktervoll zeigt sich der La Chapelle 2021 sehr klassich orientiert, ätherisch, weittragend und vielschichtig, mit einem Hauch Hummerschalen im Obertonbereich. Dicht und transparent auf der Zunge, ist er mit einer rassigen Würze und durchdringendem Lagen-Charakter ausgesattet. Auch hier sehr ätherisch, mit tiefgründigem Verlauf, steinigen Aromen, kraftvoll-differenzierter Vielschichtigkeit und ausgezeichneter Länge. Mit einer ewig weit aufgespannten Struktur erinnert dieser große, klassische Hermitage an frühere, legendäre Jahrgänge des La Chapelle. Denn der Terroirgedanke steht hier vor allem anderen. Ein zeitloser Klassiker des franz. Weinbaus. Chapeau! 19/20

-- Parker zu 2020: After the past several vintages, the 2020 Hermitage La Chapelle will need to add significant richness and concentration if it is to compete at that level. That said, it is still an excellent wine, with classic aromas of crushed stone, cassis, espresso and black olives. It's full-bodied, fine and silky, giving an impression of great elegance on the lingering finish. 93-95/100

Paul Jaboulet Aine ist noch vor Chave und Chapoutier DIE Legende im roten Hermitage. Direkt unterhalb der Kapelle liegt einer der besten Weinberge der Welt. Uralte Syrah (bzw Sirene, also die kleinbeerige Petit Syrah) bildet die Basis für diese Legende.
