Weingut über: Vinas Jovenes Crianza

-- Weingut: Old vines do not live forever. In order to have access to such special vines in the future as we do today, we planted in 2001 the vineyard of El Rincon, in the South of Briones. We have also planted some new vineyards which will become part of this wine until the vines are old enough to yield grapes for our Reservas.“El Rincón” is mostly planted with Tempranillo vines. Also, on the side with the best Sun exposition we have some plants of Graciano. Out of the three other vineyards, two are planted with Tempranillo and the other one with Garnacha. The grapes were hand picked and transported in small crates so that they arrive to the winery in the best conditions. Once there, all the bunches were checked again in the sorting table. Fermentation took place in small vats of stainless-steel, at controlled temperature. For us elegance is much more important than strength, and we try to follow this policy at our fermentations. The wine rested during 12 months in ‘second use’ barrels that were previously used for our Reservas, made with American oak staves and French oak heads. We top each barrel after six weeks to minimize its oxidation. The wine was then bottled and left to rest and develop fot 12 months.

Parker über: Vinas Jovenes Crianza

-- Parker: Parker zu 2017: They planted some vines in 2001 for the future, but for now, they produced the 2017 Viñas Jóvenes (young vines in Spanish) with 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano, fermenting it with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and maturing it in well-seasoned, neutral barrels for 12 months. The wine is juicy, very drinkable but serious, with fantastic balance and very clean aromas and flavors. It's quite fruit driven but has the complexity of a more serious wine produced with attention to detail. It already has Rioja character. 11,244 bottles and 378 magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2019. 90/100

Tim Atkin über: Vinas Jovenes Crianza

-- Tim Atkin: Tim Atkin zu 2017: Most of the grapes used to make this 10,000 bottle blend of Tempranillo and 10% Graciano come from a parcel called El Rincón, which faces west on chalky soils. The result is a subtle, spicy, very lightly wooded young wine with considerable energy and zip and lots of red cherry and bramble fruit. Wonderfully gluggable. 90/100

Miguel Merino

Mit nur rund 13 Hektar gehört Miguel Merino zu den kleinsten Bodegas Spaniens. Aufgrund der großen Pflanzabstände in Spanien sind 13 Hektar wirklich klein.
