Heiner Lobenberg über:
Vina Tondonia Reserva 2007

Parker über: Vina Tondonia Reserva

-- Parker: Following the appreciation of the 2007 vintage from María José López de Heredia, the red 2007 Viña Tondonia Reserva is showing great, revealing unusual finesse and elegance. The nose is a little reticent but nuanced and complex, a little shy rather than explosive. The palate is medium-bodied, and the tannins are very refined. This has to be one of the finest vintages of Viña Tondonia Reserva of recent years. 96/100

Tim Atkin über: Vina Tondonia Reserva

-- Tim Atkin: This won’t be on the market for at least another year - they don't to rush things at López de Heredia - but make sure you buy some when it is. Made from Tempranillo with 10% each of Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo, all from the Paraje de Tondonia close to Haro, it's a timeless classic, sustained by acidity and showing remarkable focus and precision with chalky notes and scented red berry fruit. 96/100

Suckling über: Vina Tondonia Reserva

-- Suckling: This wine spends six years in barrique (tradtionally it needed six winters to stabilize naturally), before racking into large casks and then bottling three years before the expected release. Attractive, dark earth and dried sage with a strong aroma of attractive, rich dried cherries, as well as blackberries and hints of cedar, cigar tobacco and fresh leather. The palate has a smooth array of fine but quite powerful tannin that builds seamlessly into the long, rich, dark cherry-flavored finish. Great wine! Drink or hold.

International Wine Report über: Vina Tondonia Reserva

-- International Wine Report: The R. Lopez Heredia 'Viña Tondonia Reserva' Rioja is sensational showing from a generally a challenging, low-yielding vintage in Rioja. This is a gorgeous blend of Tempranillo (75%), Garnacho (15%), Graciano and Mazuelo (10%) that was aged for six years before bottling. Needing an hour in the decanter to fully evolve, it eventually beings to fully express itself, showing aromatics of pretty red cherry cordial and wild blackberry tones that are woven together with dark licorice, pencil shavings, leather and suggestions of wild mushroom that all take shape in the glass. The palate is round and generous, showing a complex flavor profile of black cherry compote, menthol, umami and suggestions of orange rind undertones that all sing in unison. It goes on to impress as it displays a wonderful combination of freshness and verve through the finish. Overall, this is an absolutely outstanding Rioja from this legendary house that should drink beautifully for years to come. 95/100
