The Ploughmen
-- Parker: Apparently, the 2017 The Ploughmen Carignan Field Blend, a wine made with a field blend of Cariñena, Garnacha and Monastrell from the Sauzal, is now exported to the US, as in the past it was destined exclusively for the UK. This wine is a tribute to the resilience of the plowmen farmers of the Maule who have been stewards of the vines since colonial times. It fermented in open-top tanks with a small portion made with whole clusters that were foot trodden. It matured in used barrels (third use or older) for two winters, including a very slow malolactic. It's juicy, surprisingly aromatic and quite fruit-driven, with a lively palate, and it's long rather than wide, with a tasty, almost salty finish. Some 1,500 bottles were filled in 2019. 94/100
