Lobenberg: 100 % Tempranillo. Rioja. Nordostexposition, cool climate. Zum Teil Ganztraubenfermentation, die aber recht deutlich rüberkommt. Sehr seidig und saftig im Mund, fein, und doch irgendwie untypisch Riojam, eher ein Touch Bierzo. Diese Rappigkeit und Schaligkeit gibt eine unerwartete, etwas grüne Frische. Nuss und Avocada auf Schwarzkirsche und Schlehe, Orangenzesten und ein Hauch Sauerkirsche. Der Wein har den Chame der Rioja, die Kühle von Bergen und die Würze eines Weins aus dem Nordwesten. Sehr spannend, aufregend und doch genau noch den hedonistischen Punkt getroffen. Rioja + , das ist verdammt gut. 95/100

-- Parker: At the last minute, they managed to send me a bottle of the 2018 La Calleja, and the wine has a very different profile from the 2016. It's still very classical, but the oaking seems to be completely different and a lot more transparent with the wine, much better integrated and adding complexity and nuance. The nose is subtle and clean, terribly elegant, but what surprised me more was the freshness in the palate, with even blood orange echoes and ultra-fine tannins, symmetric precision and laser-cut cleanliness. It has the freshness, clout and balance to develop nicely in bottle. Bravo! 5,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019. 94/100

-- Tim Atkin: Barolo is our model,' says Óscar Alegre of this spicy, restrained Tempranillo from Fonzaleche, pointing out that he's not afraid of tannin and acidity in the bodega's wines. Showing Nebbiolo-like aromas of rose petal and pepper spices, this is savoury, sappy and intense with a core of dark fruit and very subtle wood. 94/100

-- Weingut: We truly believe La Calleja has has the talent of a great vineyard. It was planted only in 1992 by my father and myself, before I started my studies of agricultural engineering and it is one of my two favorite vineyard. It is oriented to the Northeast and located in an ancient place surrounded by abandoned terraces. Even if it was planted in a modern way, with lower density and selected clones, it is still bush pruning and it is settled on a very poor layer of sandstone. It is 100% Tempranillo and we enjoy here the finesse and delicacy of the fine wines from Rioja. This very cool place offers a light and beautiful long expression of Tempranillo. After selecting and harvesting in small cases, we make the wine including a 10% of whole clusters. Wine is naturally fermented in open wooden vat of 5o Hl. We macerate it for a couple of weeks and press softly in a vertical press. On this 2018, we decided to age this wine on a big Garbellotto foudre of 30 Hl. in order to express better the red berry expression the Tempranillo from cooler sites. We believe this wine will keep aging beautifully every month and for the next years...
