Lobenberg: Die »Keller-Kiste« ist so etwas wie der heilige Gral der Riesling-Fans. Unfassbar rar und begehrt. Einige Weine sind exklusiv, also nur in dieser Kiste erhältlich. Darunter auch der legendäre Kultriesling G-Max. Es ist also quasi das weiße Pendant zur DRC-Kiste. Die 2020er enthält folgende Weine: 3 Flaschen Kirchspiel GG (13,0% Vol.), je 2 Flaschen Frauenberg GG (13,0% vol.), Hubacker GG (13,0% vol.), je 1 Flasche AbtsE GG (13,0% vol.), G-Max (13,0% vol.), Morstein GG (12,5% vol.), Hipping GG (13,0% Vol.), Schubertslay Kabinett (8,0% Vol.). -- Suckling: Kirchspiel GG: Slight funk (from reduction) at first, but it quickly blossoms in the glass and a wealth of citrus aromas emerge, ranging from blossoms to candied peel. Brimming with white peach, sliced pear and citrus fruit, but very elegant on the front palate. Then comes a positive touch of citrus-pith bitterness at the long finish. Drink or hold. 96/100Frauenberg GG: Deep rooty nose with notes of licorice and wet earth. In spite of the lightness of touch and brightness of the acidity this has a compact core of very fine tannins. Super-long and very cool finish that’s laser beam straight, the silkiness breathtaking. And through all this is a line of delicately chalky minerality. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. 98/100Hubacker GG: A very wide spectrum of fruit aromas pour from the glass, from Asian pear to a hint of exotic fruit, via mandarin orange. However, as it aerates, the cool, herbal side to this seriously structured, but finely etched dry riesling shows itself. Very long, dark finish that’s got so much tension. Drinkable now, but best from 2023. 97/100AbtsE GG: This is only just beginning to open up, but already the peach, melon and mint nose is already incredibly deep and delicate. Breathtaking minerality and vibrant grapefruit character electrify the totally focused palate. Almost endless finish. Drink or hold. 100/100G-Max: Anything but dramatic, this impresses with great finesse and delicacy. Super-fine peachy fruit (white, yellow and red-fleshed) with a beautiful honeysuckle note. Very finely nuanced and extremely long, chalky finish. Drink or hold. 98/100Morstein GG: Extremely expressive nose with deep white-fruit, herbal and smoky aromas. Enormously concentrated, but very cool and pristine, thanks to the super-racy mineral acidity that gives the finish great power. Drinkable now, but best from 2023. 98/100 Hipping GG: A super-cool and super-mineral dry riesling with stunning precision and racy drive that propel this forward at warp speed. A cornucopia of herbs, citrus zest and berries at the pristine finish. Drink or hold. 97/100Schubertslay Kabinett: Stunning nose of melon and mint. Very sleek and racy with mouthwatering mineral acidity. Long, super-clean finish with electrifying freshness. From 60-year-old vines. Drink or hold. 94/100

-- Galloni: Kirchspiel GG: Lime, grapefruit, lavender, roux and thyme combine for a haunting fragrance. Crisp, tangy, fresh apple joins the aforementioned elements on a polished, firm palate. The finish is chalky and stony, lengthened by piquancy of grapefruit pips. It's mouthwateringly saline and mouth-shakingly vibrant, bursting unexpectedly into a shower of citrus and apple juiciness. The overall impression here is of striking clarity and energy. This will be exciting to follow. (As usual, there was also a not-quite-legally-dry “RR” bottling from Kirchspiel this vintage, but I did not have an opportunity to taste it.) 94/100AbtsE GG: Lavender, thyme, iris, narcissus, lemon and grapefruit confront the nose. The polished, subtly silken palate impression is more coolingly green-herbal and sweetly suggestive in inner-mouth perfume than the assertive pungency that the aromas suggested. As usual for this always remarkable bottling, there is an amazing sense of clarity, vibrancy and lift, accompanied by a near-kaleidoscopic interaction of floral, herbal, citric and mineral elements. 95/100G-Max: Citrus zests, lavender, struck flint and crushed stone greet the nose, enticing a first sip that practically explodes in the mouth with its intense resonance and grip. Yet there is a certain sense of buoyancy and an openness to subtlety, as bittersweet floral perfume and nuttiness add to the wine’s compulsive appeal. The finish is strikingly reverberative, with a focused sense of penetration. Memorable though it is to experience now, time is needed for this remarkable Riesling to fulfill its potential. 97/100Morstein GG: The intimations of both chalk dust and saline notes on the nose faintly bring Chablis to mind. The polished palate displays both oyster shell and oyster innards in its meld of chalky, saline, herbaceous and mouthwateringly animal-savory elements, along with a shimmering sense of citrus and mineral interaction. Zesty lemon and piquant kumquat add to the striking persistence a wine suited to setting the tonsils vibrating and milking the salivary glands. 95/100 Hipping GG: Already on the nose, the savory herbal, meaty and mineral mélange here mouthwateringly reminds me of escargot, not to mention red Burgundies, which is a cause to wonder how such scents and flavors could possibly arise from these grapes. In terms of explicit fruit identity, the most one discerns here is fresh lemon, which however serves for more than enough bright juiciness to animate and refresh through a prodigious finish. There is a combination of underlying richness with spine-tingling electricity – to say nothing of intrigue – that will absorb you for hours (indeed years) if you can afford both the time and the wine. -- Weinwisser: Kirchspiel GG: Die wärmere Lage, Kessel, Aulerde ist noch wärmer. Ätherisch-mineralische Noten, reifer Zitrus, etwas wärmer in der Aromatik, intensiver als Liebesnest. Saftiger Gaumen mit fokussierter Frische, Zitrus, weißer Pfirsich, schlank, straff und nachsaftend, kann mich an kein so schlankes und feinsinniges Kirchspiel erinnern. 18/20Hubacker GG: Kalksteinfels mit rotem Tonanteil (ab 2021 wird nur noch der obere Hubacker verwendet): Nicht selten, der eher Unauffälligste in Kellers GG-Kollektion. Sehr klar und mineralisch mit hellen Tabaknoten, sehr steinig, salzig, enorm transparent, weißer Pfeffer, saftig-rassige Präsenz, hell und feinwürzig. Hat eine enorme innere Kraft und Druck, ist wie ein Modellathlet gebaut. Erinnert fast an Chablis. Durchweg männliche Art, eigenständig und unaufgeregt. 18,5/20AbtsE GG: Ein schier berstendes Wahnsinns- Bouquet mit fast ölig-mineralischen Anklängen, erinnert fast an einen großen Moselriesling, nur viel konzentrierter, springt einen förmlich an, ungemein energetisch und weit gestaffelt. Im Mund saftig-rassig, durchdringende Mineralik, griffig und bei aller inneren Konzentration eng verwoben, zupackend ohne Ende, langes, katapultartiges Finale mit reifen Zitrusfrüchten, Pomelo und Sommerkräutern wie Melisse, Zitronenblüten und Salzzitrone. Wow! 19,5/20G-Max: Boah, da ist wieder diese verruchte Nase mit Sponti-Noten: rauchig-gelbkalkig, Mandarinenschale, erdig-tabakig, geniale dunkle Würze mit zart angetrockneter Minze, etwas wilder. Im Mund konzentriert und präzise konturiert, feinstrahlige Säure, salzige Anklänge, Grapefruit, sehr animierend mit retronasaler Kräutrigkeit, nimmt einem den Atem. Ein ätherisches Elixier. 19/20Morstein GG: 60% aus dem alten Moselfuderfass, 40% Edelstahl: Der Wein, der als letztes gelesen wurde. 8.1 Säure, 1.5 Rz. ca. 1.400 Flaschen. Das ist er wieder, dieser kalkwürzige Duft mit der pudrig anmutenden (Kalk-)Mineralik, deutlich vom Kalkstein geprägt, die schweren Tonböden geben Substanz und Dichte. Komplexer Duft mit hellem Tabak, nasse Erde, Orangenöl, straff gewoben, enorm zupackend und nachsaftend, sehr große Tiefenstaffelung. 19/20 Hipping GG: Hier zeigt sich, dass der Rote Hang einfach wärmer war. Konzentrierte, fast schon „ölige“ Anklänge, dicht und expressiv, mineralich- erdig mit ätherischen Noten und reiferer Frucht. Saftig-dichter Gaumen, unheimlich komplex und druckvoll, fast ölig in der Textur, warm aber nicht fett, tolle Dichte und Intensität. 7,9 Säure, 1 Gramm Restzucker. 18/20Schubertslay Kabinett: Der Kabinett aus den 60 Jahre alte Reben zeigt sich im Duft extrem kristallin und verspielt, mit zart-schiefriger Mineralik, hellem Steinobst, Aprikose, Renekloden und grüner Melone. Unheimlich balanciert, mit dem delikaten Trinkfluss und der Animation eines grossen Textbook-Kabinett, der jetzt schon Spass macht. 18+/20
