-- Parker: There is a basic white and a basic red from vineyards across the Lanzarote Island, and the 2018 Rofe Tinto is all Listán Negro from different old vineyards planted mostly with Listán Negro in holes in the volcanic ash soils (rofe). It fermented in plastic bins with 10% full clusters (they reduced the quantity of stems, as Listán Negro in Lanzarote tends to have green notes) and then aged in a combination of used 500-liter oak barrels, clay amphorae and stainless steel for seven months. It has a bright color that denotes high acidity, especially in a cool year like 2018 when the grapes were picked early. It has an herbal sensation in the nose intermixed with notes of black peppercorns and ground pumice stone that made me think of a Cabernet Franc. The palate is sharp with great acidity and moderate alcohol. This is still young and a little disjointed (I tasted a hypothetical blend of the different wines from each plot that were aging in different types of containers). It also has the salty character that was a recurrent note in the whites. This feels like a cool-climate red, with that spicy side. 1,800 bottles. It should be bottled in June 2019. There were some 700 bottles of 2017 produced, but they sold them all. 90-92/100
