Lobenberg: Malleolus bedeutet im örtlichen Dialekt Weinberg. Dieser reinsortige Tempranillo von ungeheurer Wucht und Tiefe wird von den besten Lagen der Moros geerntet. Die Reben sind durchschnittlich über 50 Jahre alt, nur die Rebanlagen der extrem limitierten Sanchomartin und Valderramiro sind noch älter. Die Vergärung findet, ganz 'state of the art', in offenen Barriques statt, das Ergebnis ist beeindruckend: tiefes Schwarzrot, satte, tintige Waldbeerenaromen. Kraftvoll, satt, tanninreich und stark, aber gleichzeitig üppig weich am Gaumen. Er zeigt bereits auf, in welcher immens hohen Klasse die Malleolus-Weine von Emilio Moro spielen. 94+/100

-- WE: This pure, bullish, smoky Tinto Fino is full of charred blackberry, cassis and licorice aromas. The palate is massive but superbly balanced. Flavors of mocha, black coffee, bitter chocolate, toast, blackberry and cassis finish with power and precision. Drink 2017–2025. 94/100

Parker über: Malleolus

-- Parker: 2011 was a warm and ripe vintage, and the Moro brothers are very happy with their wines; they consider the vintage their best in the decade. The 2011 Malleolus is sourced from their older vines, and fermented in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and an élevage of 18 months in French oak barriques. It has a very showy, tantalizing nose of smoked bacon, roasted coffee, grains (fried corn?), violets, dark cherries, and raspberries with plenty of spices in a very commercial mixture of oak and fruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied with some crunchy tannins over a core of ripe, juicy fruit, coming through as quite balanced and powerful, with restraint and elegance. This has to be one of the best Malleolus produced, the highlight of this line up. 140,000 bottles were filled in the summer of 2013. I also previewed the 2013 just before bottling, as there is no 2012 Malleolus (nor Valderramiro or Sancho Martín), as they thought the vintage was too ripe. The 2013 showed very nice and fresh, with the oak quite well integrated; quite impressive for a 2013. 93/100

-- Galloni: (aged for 18 months in new French oak barriques): Bright violet color. Deep, smoke-accented aromas of candied black and blue fruits, spicecake and violet, along with a vibrant mineral overtone. Fleshy, deep blackberry and boysenberry flavors are enlivened by peppery spice and floral qualities. Finishes very long and sweet, with a note of candied dark berries, excellent focus and harmonious tannins. From vines ranging in age from 25 to 75 years. -- Josh Raynolds
