Le Clos des Truffiers
-- Jeb Dunnuck: I continue to think Clos des Truffiers makes one of the great Syrahs of the world, and the 2018 isn’t going to change that opinion. Coming from some of the oldest Syrah vines in the Languedoc (not far from Faugères) and brought up in new French oak, the 2018 Clos des Truffiers sports a dense purple color as well as brooding, backward notes of blackcurrants, smoked meat, chocolate, beef blood, iodine, and scorched earth. Where the Porte du Ciel is upfront and already hard to resist, this is a denser, more concentrated, tannic Syrah with beautiful mid-palate depth, flawless balance, and a great finish. It’s unquestionably a brilliant wine, yet the cellar is going to be your friend on this one. 97-99/100
