Lobenberg: Diese Trockenbeerenauslese wird, nach dem Vorbild großer Sauternes, im neuen Barriquefass ausgebaut. Deshalb auch der Zusatz »Nouvelle Vague«. Die 2020er Grande Cuvée ist im wahrsten Sinne ein echter Kracher, denn sie fesselt einen schon mit der ersten Nase. Eine TBA aus Welschriesling und Chardonnay. Geniale, dicht verwobene, leicht rauchig unterlegte Nase. Geröstete Walnuss, Karamell, Rosine, gedörrte Aprikose, feine Exotik aus Ananas und Maracuja. Im Mund dann eine Explosion von reifem Trockenobst. Dörrpflaume, helle Rosine, aber darunter auch ein frischer Fruchtkern. Mandarine, vollreife Marille, auch wieder viel Exotik aus cremiger Mango und klarer Passionsfrucht im Nachhall. Unterschwellige, reife Säure schwingt immer mit, lässt dieses Elixier niemals dumpf wirken, sondern immer fein. Alles ist hier in perfekter Harmonie. Eine große TBA vom Süßweinmeister Österreichs. Große Klasse für viele Jahre! 98/100

Colin Hay über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 4 Nouvelle Vague

-- Colin Hay: Tasted with Gerhard Kracher at the offices of his Bordeaux courtier. This is the principle release on la place, with the other cuvées only available as part of the 2020 collection case. And it contains, this year, all of the Chardonnay – there is no monocépage Chardonnay TBA in this vintage. Tutankhamun gold in the glass. More closed on the nose initially than the 2019, tasted alongside, but so amazingly pure. Candlewax. Saffron. Pineapple. Pears rather than apricots this year, confit melon. A little ginger. A touch of spice – above all, cinnamon. Crème brulée and burnt sugar. Peanut brittle. Apple pie with the pie crust. Assorted citrus notes. Lime. This is just fabulously pure, incredibly crystalline and energetic and intensely saline. Sapid and fresh as ever. This seems to pick its fruit each year – here we have the pixilated picture perfect rendition of white pear! More herbal and saline on the finish, with that fabulous and distinctly ‘Kracher’ mineral character. A brilliantly exciting wine and a revelation. 98+/100

Parker über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 4 Nouvelle Vague

-- Parker: The 2020 Trockenbeerenauslese No. 4 Grande Cuvée Nouvelle Vague is based on 70% Welschriesling (vinified in large oak casks) and 30% Chardonnay (aged in barriques) and opens with an intense and concentrated bouquet with spicy quince aromas, lemon chutney, candied lemons, ripe and lush apricots and pineapples, hints of nougat, caramel and salt. It is very deep and complex but also refined, fresh and very elegant! Round, intense and highly refined on the palate, this is a saline and elegant, seemingly weightless Grande Cuvée that develops a spectacularly long and intense finish with salts and concentrated fruits such as melons, apricots, lemons, quinces and grapefruit. The aftertaste is intense and very long but of great finesse and elegance. This is a gorgeous wine, indeed, that is stunning a day after the opening and will need about a decade or more to gain even more complexity. 10% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in Lütjensee, Hamburg, in June 2023. To be released in mid-September 2023. 98/100

Decanter über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 4 Nouvelle Vague

-- Decanter: The second release on the Place de Bordeaux, and a stunning wine from Gerhard Kracher in 2020. Beautifully honeyed caramel, lemon, peach and apricot notes on the nose, candied, dried and fresh with salted caramel and biscuit aromas too. Freshness straight away, a scintillating acidity that lifts the expression instantly and gives energy, life and focus. This is sweet no doubt, and you feel the richness in the weight and texture, but it also has this amazing salty, minerality underneath not only giving nuance and complexity but offsetting the sugary, ginger, cinnamon, pineapple and pear mid palate. A wonderfully compelling wine, with so much crystalline purity and ease about it. Defined, focussed, interesting and perfectly balanced. I absolutely adore it! 210g residual sugar. 7.6g/l acidity. Chardonnay fermented in barriques and Welschriesling in large wooden barrels for 30 months. Like last year, a special wooden collection box will also be available featuring this wine and other cuvées of different grape varieties and sweetness levels (this one being number four). 98/100

-- A La Carte: Goldgelbe Farbnoten, vielschichtige Aromatik, kandierte Orange und Mandeln, Blütenhonig, zart Nougat, Sanddorn, Kumquat, kräftig, balancierte, dichte Textur, engmaschiges Finish, Gerbstoff mit fein verwobener Restsüße, sehr langer Nachhall, Kakao, Physalis und gelber Pfirsich im Rückaroma, viel Potenzial.

Suckling über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 4 Nouvelle Vague

-- Suckling: What a complex nose of candied ginger, apricot conserve, dried mango, quince and vanilla. It’s balanced and complete, with very well integrated lemony acidity, spice and sweet, dried fruit. There’s a lot of structure behind the richness that gives it fantastic ageing potential. A cuvee of chardonnay and welschriesling fermented and matured in new oak casks, the chardonnay in barriques and the welschriesling in Slavonian barrels. Drink or hold. 97/100

Falstaff über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 4 Nouvelle Vague

-- Falstaff: Kräftiges Goldgelb, Messingreflexe. Zart nach Nougat und Karamell, feine Noten von gelber Tropenfrucht, reifer gelber Apfel, ein Hauch von Vanille, facettenreiches Bukett. Stoffig, Nuancen von reifer süßer Frucht, feine Holznoten, mineralisch, ausgewogen, zeigt sehr gute Länge, bereits zugänglich und vielfältig einsetzbar, sicheres Entwicklungspotenzial. 97/100

Galloni über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 4 Nouvelle Vague

-- Galloni: The 2020 Grande Cuvée TBA No. 4 Nouvelle Vague Kollektion is a blend of Chardonnay and Welschriesling. Smooth toffee and caramel come with a note of lemon and banana sliced into a butterscotch sauce. The palate has candied white currant, sultana and clear, bright blossom honey spiced with lemon juice. This is caramelized sweetness but comes on light feet, on little tiptoes of acidity that then explode into fullest flavor. The sultana and lemon aftertaste is endless, with some of the finest rum raisin ice cream notions. (Luscious) 97/100
