Heiner Lobenberg über:
Rioja CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva 2015

95–96
/100

Lobenberg: Mittleres, leicht bräunlich durchscheinendes Rot. Würzige Nase, Pflaume, sehr reife Kirschen, Erdbeere, reife Johannisbeere. Butterweiches Tannin mit überaus charmanter Säure, erdig, süffig. Ein archetypischer Klassiker. 95-96/100

Suckling über: Rioja CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva

-- Suckling: Plenty of sandalwood, cedar, black-fruit and walnut aromas. So perfumed. Just a hint of dried fruit to add complexity. Full-bodied and layered with firm tannins, yet the ripe fruit is layered in-between. Gorgeous, succulent finish. One for the cellar. Drink or hold. 97/100

Tim Atkin über: Rioja CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva

-- Tim Atkin: Produced in CVNE's bodega within a bodega, entirely dedicated to Imperial, this is a superb Gran Reserva that combines Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. Rich, dense and layered, with fine new French and American oak, wonderful focus, savoury tannins and the depth and concentration to age for a decade or more. 96/100

Galloni über: Rioja CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva

-- Galloni: Saturated garnet. Expansive red and blue fruit, cured tobacco, potpourri, spice and succulent herb aromas, along with vanilla and smoky mineral notes. Sappy and expansive on the palate, offering mineral- and spice-accented boysenberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that deepen and turn sweeter as the wine opens up. Shows sharp definition and spicy thrust on the impressively long, gently tannic finish, which leaves behind suggestions of juicy blue fruits and oak spices. 95/100

Penin über: Rioja CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva

-- Penin: Dunkles Kirschrot mit granatrotem Saum. Aromen von Früchtekonfit, Tabak, süße Gewürze und Zigarren. Am Gaumen würzig, reife Tannine und lang. 94/100

Decanter über: Rioja CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva

-- Decanter: Contino is famous for its wonderfully sited vineyard, and for being a very early adopter of Graciano as a single variety. Two years after this vintage (10% Graciano), there was change of winemaker. Today there are clear movements towards greater freshness. My recent focus has been on their Graciano and Garnacha, so this is a good reminder to look out for the forthcoming vintages of Contino's Gran Reserva; they should be very promising indeed. Dense and dark, aged for three years in French and American oak, with a fine finish of supple tannin. 94/100

Wine Enthusiast über: Rioja CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva

-- Wine Enthusiast: This inky garnet wine features a nose of dark plum, caramel and lavender that set the stage for flavors of black currant, blackberry, vanilla, dark chocolate, clove and violet. It is smooth in the mouth, with opulent tannins and a note of orange zest on the bright finish. 94/100
