Lobenberg: Einer der absoluten Top-Chenin Blancs des nach der Loire zweitbesten Chenin Gebiets der Welt. Ein einziger kleiner 2 Hektar Weinberg aus Granit. 50 Jahre alte Reben. Satte Mandarinennase mit Feuerstein, Reduktion, etwas Phenolik. Ziemlich üppig mit sehr passender Holznote. Honig und Apfel, Walnuss. Der Wein hat die Malo im neuen Holz durchlaufen. Sehr eindrucksvoll im reichen Mund, dabei hat er eine laserscharfe Präzesion. Irrer Stoff. 96-97/100

-- Tim Atkin: One of a trio of world-class single site Chenin Blancs from David and Nadie Sadie (no relation to Eben, by the way), this hails from a two-hectare vineyard that was planted in 1968 and is often picked late. Completing full malolactic - such is the acidity in the grapes - this is leesy, focused and taut, with some ferrous grip and a textured palate. 96/100

-- Galloni: The 2019 Hoë-Steen Chenin Blanc has a fragrant nose, more resinous than floral, with melted wax and hints of dried honey, plus just a very faint apple blossom note in the background. It revs up with aeration, unfolding to offer linseed and grilled walnut aromas. The palate is very well balanced, demonstrating more weight and concentration compared to the Skaliekop, a beautifully well-judged line of acidity and a slightly creamy texture toward the finish. Very persistent in the mouth. This is a gorgeous South African Chenin Blanc. 94/100

-- Decanter: Another of this acclaimed pair’s single-vineyard wines. The site was planted in 1968 between Malmesbury and Darling. Some flinty reduction and wet wool before stone fruit and tangerine on the nose, while the palate is rich and thick-textured with tangy acidity and a savoury finish. 94/100

David ist in Swartland geboren und weitläufig mit Südafrikas Wein-Superstar Eben Sadie verwandt (Sadie ist ein ursprünglich deutschstämmiger Name).
