Lobenberg: Dichtes, tiefes Violett-Rot. Reife, volle Cassis-Nase. Ein Wein zum Kauen, konzentrierte Frucht, tanninreich, sehr kraftvoll. Langer frischer Abgang mit feinem Säurespiel und beeindruckender Länge. Wird etwas Zeit brauchen, sollte dann aber in der absoluten Oberklasse der Hermitage liegen. 95-96/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: In a completely different style to the 2016s, the 2017 Hermitage comes from a ripe, sexy vintage for Hermitage. Aged 48 months in barrel, it’s ruby/purple-colored and has a killer nose of blackcurrants, black raspberries, smoked meats, spice box, vanillin, and espresso. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, with background oak, loads of fruit, and ripe, sweet tannins, it shows the style of this vintage beautifully. It needs a few hours in a decanter if drinking any time soon and will be best with 4-5 years of bottle age. It's going to evolve nicely for 25 years or more. 94/100

-- Galloni: Deep, vivid ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe dark berries, cherry liqueur, floral and exotic spices, with botanical herb, game and olive notes in the background. Concentrated but energetic as well, offering sharply defined blackberry, bitter cherry, candied violet, vanilla and exotic spice flavors with a touch of spicy cracked pepper. Clings with strong tenacity on the penetrating finish, which is framed by well-absorbed tannins. 50% new oak. 94/100

-- Parker: Guigal's 2017 Hermitage is a rich, full-bodied but approachable effort, with notes of roasted meat, black cherries and grilled plums, plus hints of dried spices, including star anise. It's nearly creamy in texture, with a lush mouthfeel and ample length on the finish. In the rarefied world of Hermitage, it should be a decent value and reasonably available, with close to 3,000 cases produced. 93/100
