Parker über: Gran Reserva

-- Parker: Like the Reserva, the 2014 Gran Reserva also shows brilliantly, complex, nuanced, polished and elegant, showing the essence of traditional Rioja in a clean and expressive way. They selected grapes from old vines (planted between 1918 and 1960) that fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in new French oak barrels. The wine has absorbed most of the new oak by now and feels quite classical, perhaps a little creamier than the old-timers, with fine tannins and developed flavors. 4,821 bottles and 378 magnums were filled in March 2017. 93/100

Tim Atkin über: Gran Reserva

-- Tim Atkin: More modern in style than the bodega's Reserva, which relies more on American oak and balsamic notes, this is all aged in French wood and shows the poise and freshness of an Atlantic vintage. Savoury and spicy, with good balance and concentration and a core of mature fruit. 93/100

Weingut über: Gran Reserva

-- Weingut: Only in the best vintages we select the best vines to make our Gran Reserva. Our Gran Reserva 2014 comes from vineyards planted in the 1950s and 1960s in Briones, in slopes of limestone and clay soil composition at an altitude of 550 metres. The grapes were hand-picked and transported in small crates so that they arrive to the winery in the best conditions. Once there, all the bunches were checked again in the sorting table. Fermentation took place in small vats of stainless-steel, at controlled temperature, with frequent remontages (pumping over the must). For us elegance is much more important than strength, and we try to follow this policy at our fermentations. Malolactic fermentation took place in new oak barrels.Over two years in 19 new French oak barrels. Topping every 6 weeks to minimize oxidation. Three years in bottle before release.

Miguel Merino

Mit nur rund 13 Hektar gehört Miguel Merino zu den kleinsten Bodegas Spaniens. Aufgrund der großen Pflanzabstände in Spanien sind 13 Hektar wirklich klein.
